Travelling a good distance for food
Discussion
My partner is bloody awkward when it comes to food and will only buy from Marks and Spencers. The nearest M and S is 20 miles away and this is a trip each sunday.
I tell my partner that now they stand every chance of being stopped by the Police and receiving an on the spot fine, of course an argument follows and says that there is nothing in the guidelines about where to do essential food shopping, the local ASDA is half a mile away.
What do you guys think, at risk of a fine or not?

I’m not in the UK at the moment but I can’t imagine that it has turned into that much of a police state that you can’t drive 20 miles. Of course on the way back you will have the groceries to show so it’s a one way journey you seem worried about. I think they have bigger fish to fry with people going to beaches, having bbqs and parties etc.

There are news clips of the Police pulling cars off the road and asking the drivers where are you going and why.
She will do what she wants anyway but my concern is that the coppers will say to her, you live 20 miles away its not an essential for you to make this journey.
And that's all you are concerned about? She will do what she wants anyway but my concern is that the coppers will say to her, you live 20 miles away its not an essential for you to make this journey.

More reading required. You are unlikely to get fined immediately. Just go, or tell her to stop being such a fussy nonsense. Unless she'll be physically sick eating food from Asda, she's basically Hyacinth Bucket.
Thank you for the advice, the Hyacinth Bucket comparison isn't too far off the target.I told her to chill a bit from the fussy nonsense some years ago, she will never change.
For example, I do the laundry and buy household stuff. She said that the washing looked cleaner and smelt better, had I started using a different program on the washing machine. I told her I had stopped using Ariel and now used Lidl detergent, she insisted that I go back to Ariel.
Total biatch at every opportunity,

a) I will be paying the fine
b) she doesnt need to go, we have food
c) I am trying to fully lock down, I dont want her bringing the virus home
You need to remind her of C as much as you can.b) she doesnt need to go, we have food
c) I am trying to fully lock down, I dont want her bringing the virus home
Whilst it could be argued there’s just as much chance picking up the virus in any shop, she isn’t helping in slowing the spread.
Your area “might” be fairly lightly infected at the moment, with the M&S twenty miles away being a cesspit of contamination. Or vice versa.
