Just Brought a New Boat...Chris Craft 25ft
Discussion
Hey guys,
Some interesting bargains going on at the moment and I think I just got one.
I have a Malibu Wakeboat but keep it for fresh water use, and frankly speaking, it's hopeless in Sydney harbour due to complete lack of deadrise.
So I've been on the lookout for a more seaworthy trailer boat, but didn't want a dedicated fishing style boat (no comfort), something more akin to a Riva.
Anyhow, been watching this Chris Craft 25ft Corsair:

2008 Model, big block 8.1mpi volvo, switchable exhaust, and heritage edition (better trim). 3 months ago was listed at $120K (£60K) and I've watched the price drop and drop.
Long story short, I got it for $60K (£30K) yesterday.
It's in a storage slot so now need to source a trailer as I intend to move it around a bit (we've a great river system called Pittwater where they film Home and Away right next to my place, plus Sydney Harbour and Myall Lakes etc..).I've estimated the complete rig wet to be right on our 3.5 ton limit for towing but should be doable.
And it needs some TLC which I'm looking forward to doing.
And this whole 'work from home' scene means I've plenty of time to tinker.
Some more pictures:

Once I get it on a trailer and back to the yard, I'll do some photos of the restoration and servicing.

Rightio, found a new Magic Tilt trailer, it's a sled runner style which I prefer to rollers.
Harder to get on/off but much more stable once on.
It's rated for 2,700kg payload so the Corsair at 2,200 dry should be just about okay.
Sits really nicely too, I hate boats that 'perch' on the top of trailers, but she sits down low in the centre.
Incredibly, only had to adjust a couple of the front guides too! Although I think the towball weight may be a little high.

Now need to get the trailer registered and get the whole lot back to the storage yard space I rented.
Sadly, and due to Corona lockdown, NSW government has banned boating, although if you're going on your own, can't see how this effects anyone. Hey ho... plenty of time to refurbish the interior, polish the hull and give the beauty a service.

One thing I don't like, for some weird reason the previous owner anti fouled it.
Which is pointless because it was kept in a storage rack, and only ever sat at anchor overnight once or twice.
Seems an effective salesman at the yard convinced him to do this. Grrrr..
Annoying as I hate anti-foul and there's no real way of removing it cleanly without damaging the gel coat in one way or another. And it's all over the stern drive, which means stripping, re-painting and a new sticker set! Double Grrrr.....

Media blasting will have that off without damaging to gel.
I've seen soda used but I'm sure there are others. Soda is good as it dissolves in water so a wash down after removes it all.

Thanks Steve, I'll find a yard that offers this...I've seen soda used but I'm sure there are others. Soda is good as it dissolves in water so a wash down after removes it all.

Very nice. Is that a Heritage edition?
I've just gone for the smaller version. Unfortunately lock down came between buying and collecting, so it is currently 50 miles away being prepped for the summer.
I just hope we get to use her.

Runs really well in slight chop, You'll enjoy them for sure.
Only downside is storage is a bit lack lustre when compared to Sea Rays and Four Winns etc..

Just hoping that we can get her down during May.
