Singers who spoil bands for you

It's a difficult one, as one man's cacophonous din is another's angelic chorus, but listening to Duran Duran's first couple of albums on Prime Music reminded me that I like Duran Duran's early stuff (first album especially) except for Le Bon's voice.

It's not an absolute show stopper for me, unlike Ali Campbell of UB40 who makes every one of their songs unlistenable for me.

More recently the female singer in The XX is great, but I don't enjoy the bloke's voice at all...

Someone mentioned Mick Hucknall's inability to hold a note (or something similar) in a recent thread, too.

There are others, but which bands do you like EXCEPT for the singer's voice (we should ignore cases where the singer is a k**b as there are far too many! ).

Another band I absolutely love, but who are quite often let down by the lead singers voice is New Order. I know why Bernard Sumner ended up being the singer but his voice is weak and awful live unfortunately.

Not sure about Mick Hucknall not being able to hold a note! Whilst I am not a fan at all, I saw Simply Red at the Albert Hall about 12 years ago and I was actually really surprised as to how good his voice was live!!

Girlfriend at the time was a big fan so I bought her tickets.

I like them a lot still too and still listen, the musical chemistry between John Frusciante and Flea is great and they’re both very talented,Frusciante is a good singer too.As much as his voice grates sometimes I don’t think they’d be the same without Kiedis.
Completely agreed r.e. New Order and Sumner, still really liked their work but their original frontman had a much more powerful, interesting voice even if he didn’t have a huge range.

I have too agree and I am a huge Chilis fan. Worked on a couple of their tours, both with Frusciante and Josh. Josh was excellent, but John is just off the scale. Kiedis does have his off moments but he is the ideal frontman and they do work well as a band. Be interesting to hear their new stuff now John is back in the band.

Bloody hell yes, she just wails. I had the misfortune to catch part of their set in Hyde Park one year, she's a real ear-bleed merchant.

Don't get me started on Chris Martin. Coldplay come up with some decent-enough tunes but they need to fk Martin right off if they ever want to be successful ( )

James LaBrie of Dream Theater. Live recordings of him are, to be honest, terrible. However, him actually live is fine although that may just have been me getting caught up in the moment...
