I have never gotten into the whole Apple ecosystem, and to be honest i'll probably never will.
However my son and my ex-wife love it and have the lot, ipads, iphone, imac etc.

Because of my lack of Apple knowledge, i'd like to know if it's possible to send text messages from what seems to be one phone, but from another (this includes Whatsapp)?

To give you a scenario.

When my son messages me by text or WA on a normal day (normally when he wants something), i'd be lucky to read more than 3 lines. Which is normally to the point and no expression of feelings or desires.

Although when I've had a argument with his mother over the phone (she's batst mental), i can guarantee that a hefty message will shortly be sent, which would go into detail as to how things are my fault and how i'm punishing him, how he's hurt, proper sob story. Because "he" overheard what we were talking about.
When i try and call him, there is no answer or it's declined.

I have no doubt that this is her sending messages, as him, and I'm pretty sure she has his password for his email account, which is registered to his iPhone.

Apart from just taking his phone and sending these messages to me. What possibilities are there, for her to send a message to me disguised as him?
Could you also share an account over two phones? As i know she has more than one iPhone (due to an upgrade).

If she has his WhatsApp credentials she could easily add it to a “spare” handset.

She could be sending messages, iMessages or WhatsApp messages via his iCloud account that would be signed in across the devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod or Mac)

I can send messages from Mac as an example rather than my phone.

She could also be using web.whatsapp.com or the WhatsApp PC/Mac client.

This is of concern, is there a way that i can read up on this, so it goes into more depth?

Also with regards to the Whatsapp account, he doesn't notice anything different and doesn't need to login when he wants to use it.
If it's setup on the spare phone, would it affect usability on his phone?

Yes it could quite easily be her sending those messages.
You cant stop her doing it.
So now you know it could well be her, you just have to work out how you react.
You could start battling back and cause more rows and alienate your son.
Or you could carry on being nice with your son and ignoring her.
You cant win against a batst pissed of ex, dont even try.

How old is your son, and have you asked him about the messages?
If they are genuine it gives the opportunity to address the problems, or it confirms they are fake and his account is compromised.

He would see the messages on his phone.

You can use whatsapp web or set up a tablet different phone if you have access to the main phone for the first use. After that you can use independently but the messages do show up on the original phone message timeline.

They can of course be deleted.
