Hi

How I hate WFH and miss the free printing at work

Anyone able to recommend a wireless colour laser printer.

HP Inkjet has given up after I stupidly thought it would be good to feed it non genuine ink.

Cheers

If you end up looking at HP Printers, the ones with cashback may be found listed here: https://h41201.www4.hp.com/WMCF.Web/Dispatcher.asp... assuming the link works ok.

I'd also look at the cost of replacement toner when deciding which printer to buy. I have an HP CP1525nw and can use reasonably cheap compatible toners (2 out of 4 in it are currently non-genuine). If I were to use genuine HP toner, it would be cost prohibitive for me.

I've just bought the M479FDW ... £350 from printerland with £180 cashback.

Piece of piss to set up, all looks good and has multifunctions.

Brother DCP-L3550CDW - bought about 6 months ago. Perfect all-in-one, even multifeeds scans etc...

Seriously wish I'd bought a laser printer years ago rather than wasting money , ink and multiple printer-rages on inkjet printers. Grrr....

I have a Xerox 6510DN. If you want wireless you'll need the DNI version, £170 from printerland

Never going back to inkjets but you will need a big table, it's a beast. Running with cartridges from cartridgesave.co.uk. Lot cheaper and the printer seems perfectly happy with them.

Do you need colour? lasers are generally crap at colour and cost a fortune to run. Inkjets are better for colour at the pricepoint, the problem with inkjets is lack of use

I use a B&W laser printer, the cheaper they are the more expensive they are to run, which is fine if you not doing bulk printing. I priced some up when I was looking, and over 50,000 pages of print it was cheaper to run a £350-450 printer (£750 total (incl consumables)) than a £150-200 printer (£1000 total (incl consumables)). Breakeven tended to be around the 35,000 pages mark.
I also have an Epson Inktank for when I need colour.

I guess you wont be printing the volume of pages we do, but the massive difference in running costs is an interesting point to note, the next level up circa B&W Laser are £800, are even cheaper to run, but the breakeven is a lot higher.

+1, got the same model. Works perfectly for me, prints and scans wirelessly from laptops, chromebooks, mobiles and tablets. Being a colour laser it is useless at printing photos but for general documents it is great. I try not to use large swathes of colour as I know the colour toner replacements will be expensive but it is nice to have a double-sided printer at home that can do colour if needed.

Touch under 6p a page for the Xerox with compatible cartridges (assuming it uses all 4 evenly which it doesn't). Actually less because the black comes in a 5,500 page size so cheaper. Hardly a fortune for home use. We don't use it for photos but Mrs stemll prints loads of colour stuff for scouts.

Inkjets are also lousy for photos, we have a dye sublimation printer for photos (now that is expensive at about 25p per 6x4 photo)

I picked the Xerox because, unlike many printers, it will still print B&W if one or more of the colours runs out. If you decide you didn't need colour after all, don't replace the colour when it runs out and it will keep printing in B&W.

That 6p doesn't include cost of developers and drums that have limited lifetime on some cheaper models (but you may never hit the limits). But printing costs add up - a recommended Samsung one I looked at was £447 for 25000 pages whereas mine is £106 for 25000 pages or £237 and £45 for compatibles.

Like I said it depends on volumes and then speed also becomes a factor. I can print 30 x 25 page double sided delegate packs in half the time it takes to print the 30 colour front sheets on the Inkjet.

Drums do 48k pages and the waste cartridge 30k on the Xerox so for pretty much all home users that's lifetime (as you said) and between them they add 1p per page (for genuine Xerox drums)

We've got the Lexmark MC2425 at home.

At work, it's a Xerox C7020 (need A3).

As others have said, check your desk dims first!

Our first printer was 25k pages for a drum change, when I replaced it, it was also due a new Fuser Unit as well and was creasing double sided printing. Also didn't realise how shockingly bad the quality had become in comparison to the new printer.

I picked up a Brother HL-L3270CDW for £190 delivered at the start of the week. Cheap and cheerful colour laser and I’m quite impressed with the speed and output. Wireless printing (including AirPrint) so meets our WFH requirements.

You haven't bought a laser printer now... What you have there is a LED printer. But yes they are very good.

I have an OKI laser at work, 7 years old now, never used genuine toner. The cost difference is stupid. Original toner, all colours, £200, third party toner, all colours, £45. The only issue I have ever had is an odd chip not working on the cartridge, however the company will send a replacement chip. Over the years I reckon I have saved £3000

Any preferred suppliers of non-genuine toner?
