V8S Manifolds.........?

How easy are these to fit.........? Is it an easy DIY job or should I get the garage to fit?

One of mine is cracked so time for the ACT S/S jobbies me thinks....!

difficult to get to some of the bolts
get under that bonnet and put a spanner to each bolt
That will make your mind up !

Mike - its a b*stard of a job, especially if you have the nut retaining clips fitted. I completed this all myself a couple of weeks back. The ACT s/s manifolds are a good fit and have a smaller bore than the standard jobbies - I did need to cut down one of the manifold bolts though to fit them - I used spring washers this time instead. There's also the added bonus of a far better exhaust note - even louder now, especially at around 4k rpm

Didn't realise Tim was selling the 'performance' slightly smaller bore manifolds as well as the blended Y piece, I'll have no advantages soon, don't suppose i can claim the rights too them .
Agree it does make the exhaust a little more angry though .

Excellent so it will make it sound better and possibly go better cant wait....although it might have to wait a short time as I am busy with off-loading my wallet on the new house

in the meantime is there a short term solution to stop the blowing, its only a small crack so its not too bad, would be nice to patch it up though for a month until I can get the new manifolds?

Is there anything I could use to patch it up until the new exhaust arrives?

If you have the manifold off the car it should be possible to weld the crack up, if it's somewhere accessible.

Its still on the car, sounds like a big job to take them off if thats my only option, will have to bear with it until I can get the new manifolds. Isnt there some Gum stuff, or is that just for silencers???

Mike, I tried gun gum on my manifolds and it blows straight off. Waste of time in that situation IMHO.

I ended up brazing up a crack on mine - fortunately it was on the top so easily accessible - details and pics are on www.tvrgit.com - I think i did it at the end of May there. Cost me £4.99 for two brazing rods and I only used one - worth a try?

Sounds similar as mines on the top and easily accessible? Although I wouldnt go anywhere near my engine bay with a blow torch and I dont know anyone local that could do it for me as I am new to the area?

Might have to live with it for a short while?!

, I assume Tim asks this anyway, but I'll mention it incase there are others contemplating changing over manifolds. If you have ported heads, let him (tim) know as the cylinder head flange on the manifolds needs to be opened out from standard othere wise you will negate adn strangle your loverly flowed heads .

Mike If the manifolds have been off in the last couple of years then imho its not too difficult to drop them, an hour or so for both sides. Whilst you're there get cleaning and painting the top chassis rails that are hidden by the manifolds too.

Thanks for the heads up Harry, good to know, the heads on my car are Gas flowed (apparently) as a mechanical numptee does this make any difference??

If the bolts will come out easily I might give it a try to take them out? Will try to paint the chassis too, cheers.

Ah well it might, but I've used that in the past (to fix my old downpipes before I de-catted) and it wasn't too great for that either... Maybe it's just me...

I decided I'd prefer a more permanent (and tidier) solution so brazed it up.

What's the worst that can happen? Oh, melt a petrol pipe you say, or spark up an oil leak... ah pride and joy burnt to a hulk you say... ah... right enough... Good job I'm stupid...

Don't do it Mike, one of the bolts WILL shear off requiring a block removal. Better to let a garage do it.

It's an all ally engine , not sure if a bolt may shear, the thread may strip though .
Seriously they come undone regulary on the RV8 through vibration on their own and need tightening, I doubt one will seize IMHO. Like everything though take it easy.....

Mine seem to more or less spit themselves out at me the moment I turn my back, but I imagine they'd be happy to seize just to be awkward.
