Should we be driving Classic's - whilst under Covid-19?
Discussion
This is a genuine question....is it ethical to be driving a classic car at the moment?
A couple of other forum's I visit, see "some folk" that are carrying on regardless and driving their classic have a argument to every point put to them and they believe it is OK to do so.
There are also just as many people arguing that they are fanning the flames of people that are suffering and enjoying a car (hood down especially) is decadent and just not necessary i.e. use your "modern".
I think it IS a time to look at ourselves as this a very strange time....however, what you doing?

I can see your point.......I was just at the point where the Mk1 MR2 I've had stored away for 3 years was about to come out to play for the summer. I haven't done anything about it yet, because I know how I'll feel if I'm 15 miles away from home and it pegs out. Even though I have journeys I potentially have to make occasionally, using that car feels like a liberty at the moment. I'm not saying I'm right to feel like that, but it just doesn't seem responsible to use something potentially less reliable than my usual stuff.

Driving along in a classic either roof down or no roof down surely got to be the ideal self isolation isn't it ?? not near to anyone just you, how can this hurt ?
It's more likely to breakdown or if you have an accident, to be more serious, thus requiring interaction with others.V8fan said:
If you go to the shops / collect medicine / deliver to vulnerable relatives or whatever in your classic instead of an 'everyday' car, I don't see the issue. You'd be making the journey anyway.
Unless you believe you're more likely to break down in it?? you may be stranded a while.
And if you should be involved in an accident? Unless you believe you're more likely to break down in it?? you may be stranded a while.
Choosing to drive a classic car rather than your airbag, disc brake, crumple zone equipped modern one is going to increase the severity of any injuries.
Due to the current pressure on the NHS and police you will have to wait longer for the emergency services to reach you and get you to hospital; a hospital where, with NHS staff of all disciplines caring for coronavirus patients and many having to self-isolate having shown symptoms, the emergency department is seriously under-manned with key staff busy elsewhere.
Your choice though.
I've not taken anything classic out since this started, as others have said I don't think it would be looked on to kindly to be out on what would look like a non essential journey (even if it was to go to the supermarket)
I've started everything and got them to temperature, moved them around as much as the driveway will allow and that's it, I could take them to work (as we are operating normally keeping various departments transport serviceable) but even then I wouldn't want the bother of potentially being stopped, plus lots of classic policy's don't allow commuting.
Better to wait and then put some colour back into the world by using them when this is done

All of my cars are sorn other than a t5 I use for lugging about. It may be the purpose of the journey that's important but I just think it's a bit poor taste to be razzing about in anything fancy at the moment when prople are facing real hardship.
FGS, do you live in a hole in the ground? People are ALWAYS facing real hardship. 19% of children in the UK live in food insecure households, for instance. Do you give that a passing thought before going out for a drive? These threads and posts like yours are a massive conceit. Why do you think anyone could give two hoots what you're driving?I should be sorting the fuel pump on my TVR Tasmin 280i, but as I live in a flat, and my garage is in a communal area,I can’t really work on my car. If I did get it going and go for a drive in the lovely spring weather, I would at best get disapproving looks, or in Derbyshire get pulled in by the police, and asked to account for myself.
