This is not the kind of thing that I really give a monkeys about, but I read this article anyway about potential delays to the next wonder device.

They talk about lots of issues that may affect sales of the next iPhone, but they don’t mention the boycott of “Made in China”. When my old SE finally has to be replaced, one of my criteria will be to buy a phone NOT made in China, even if this may require me to go to the clunky Android OS with a Korean made device.

I suppose the Apple fanboys won’t give a st about this issue and it will have limited effect - or Apple will feel the winds of change and move manufacturing elsewhere, we shall see.

Suits me if it's delayed.

I bought my partner an 11 a little while ago and it will mean that remains the latest model for longer!

Even if you buy a Korean phone, are loads of the components still Chinese though?

Why is that?

A lot of people (including me) are trying to reduce the amount of stuff that's made in China rather than cut it out entirely so if there are two similar products and one isn't in made in China then I'll go for that. For example I've just bought a camera monopod, the choices went down to ones from Benro vs Manfrotto so I bought the Manfrotto because it was made in Italy even though it was about 10% more.

As for phones, there are very few phones that are shorter than 14cm with a half decent spec, I think when I bought my last phone it was the iPhone 7 vs a Sony compact of some description and not much else so I went with the Apple. When this one breaks I imagine the Apple iPhone 9/SE2 will be one of the few that I can choose from with the same criteria, though a quick Google suggests most Samsungs are now made in Vietnam so who knows what I'll eventually go for!

Simple payback Mad Monk. I hold their culture and animal husbandry practices to blame for dumping additional trillions of debt on the world and for taking out a load of grandparents prematurely.
