Eeek,

Just about to buy a P Smart Z to replace my dead P10 and I’ve realised about the Google thing...

...am I getting it right that I can’t install anything Google on it?

If that’s the case I’ll buy another P10!

Ive possibly got a p40pro when they become consummer available. With all the work arounds will Google Pay still work??If not which other app would work. This is a deal breaker as i hate carrying around a wallet. Thank you..

I doubt Google Pay would work. AFAIK you can get apps on the device with sideloading etc. but not the underlying Google framework which you need for Google Pay.

I guess if you are happy giving money to the People’s Liberation Army then yes it safe.

In the same way as giving money to the Gestapo in 1938 was safe, completely wrong but safe.

If you can justify supporting an organisation currently committing genocide to save a few hundred quid then yeah go for it.

Pretty much any phone is made in China so are they supporting the Chinese government as well?

I've had a P10 for a while and a few other Huawei handsets (P10 plus, P9, Mate S) but being very well built and good performers, I don't think I'd go for another with all these issues to be honest.

If it gets sorted, wonderful. I really like my P10 as it's a good size, is dual SIM and not let me down (yet).

If not, I think I'll be having a good look at OnePlus' offerings. Seem to be much better with full G support.

Having to get an iPhone for business purposes soon, maybe I'll be best off with a OnePlus anyway.

Have a look. The UI is completely different and much better on the OnePlus. I've just become accustomed to EMUI as it works quite well and isn't really as bad as it's made out in my eyes.

I bought a couple of Huawei tablets last week for the kids.

Everything 'Google' works out the box. Play Store, maps, mail, music are all there as normal. Can't see any issues at all.

I love my P30 Pro, it's really good, but I have got a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth after all the issues. Plus the residuals absolutely bombed. So my phone that I paid essentially a grand for (can't remember the exact figure) is now worth around a hundred pounds. Was looking at an early upgrade but think I'm still due around £500 on the phone. A bit irritating.

ETA: Just realised I added absolutely nothing to this conversation hehe just had a rant!

I'd say you're safe to buy, but be aware that residuals will be poor, I'm sure future support will be fine but there's more potential for lack of support/issues than the likes of Samsung etc.

Products released before the trade wars started are ok but the P40 won't have the Google stuff.

Cheers, I was looking at one of the recent handsets so probably no joy... annoying as I missed out on a brand new P10 for just over £100 which would have been a bargain.

Chatting with a colleague today who wants to sell his old S8 though so that’ll do

Obviously not, but very few other companies have anything like the links between their management and the PLAN. Samsung, Apple etc might be made in China but they are not owned by and controlled by people with incredibly close links to the Chinese army.
