Heard a low deep rumble and said to the other half that sounded unsual, then what I think was a C130 came over prety low and turned onto the usual Easyjet run into Luton...

Any ideas why ?

RAF C-17, doing circuits looks like it's simply a training sortie.

Just came back over my house 20 mins south east of Luton. First military jet I've ever seen come over this way in 4 years of living here.

Suspect the Air Trafficers are also grateful for some business.

Stuck in Wickes (Stevenage) car park, it's now circled over twice.

They were doing approaches into Southend the other week. Flew over my house a few time.
They did a touch & go as well, so technically the largest (I think!) plane ever to take off from SEN smile

Was chatter about it on the local FB page and the pilot got wind of it and explained what they were doing and why - was quite cool.

I saw that post, and guessed it was similar...

As the poster above, we get the odd Chinook over but nothing this big or this low.....

Suspect it's quite likely they are simply taking adavantage to have a change and do some training at an airfield they would never normally use. Crews don't expect to do a famil at every airfield they use (esp. international airports) unless it's somewhere really unusual like Gibraltar, etc.

A 99 squadron C17 just doing routine training. The crew decided on Luton as it's quiet. The did three passes. A mate of mine was flying

Lots of training happening in and around the uk. Look at adsbexchange and select the ‘U’ button.
Right now 3 chinooks out playing, and a V22 osprey. A C17 is doing circuits at brize norton as well.
Earlier today there were quite a few transports doing circuits at presumably quiet civilian airports.
Something to keep an eye on during the lockdown.

I saw two C17's fly over my house on Monday, i'm in Aberdare - so i imagine they passed over you in Bridgend a few milliseconds before. They were flying single file with one another.

For the size of the aircraft i couldn't believe how quiet they were!

Yep reasonable quiet as I thought they were civilian during the last week. Then popped out in the garden to see they weren’t civilian. I must have missed a fair few flights though. All quiet today though

Not surprised, it's going to take more than the run of a car park to get it back off the ground!! tongue out
