I brought a Sony KD-55XD9305 TV in October 2016 which apparently has a known problem with the power supply board.
With impeccable timing, this has now decided to manifest itself. Contacted Sony who insist that I provide a VAT receipt - which I cant find. Obviously just popping down to the local Currys to ask if they can give me a copy is a bit out of the question at this time.

Anybody have a clue as to what the cost of getting the repair done myself, or even if TV repair companies are even operating at the moment?

Other option would be to buy a new TV, hopefully without any built in faults, and sell the current one for spares or repairs when the lockdown ends.
What would be the best option in the 50" 4K HDR range at the moment?

You could probably get a replacement psu on eBay for £30ish if you’re prepared to take the back off and get the exact part number off the psu itself.

We've got the 65 inch model and had the same issue just before Xmas, defective module on the power supply board. To be fair Sony were brilliant about it - packed up on the Thursday, and the following Monday and engineer was out with a new board. Don't remember them asking for a VAT receipt though - just date of purchase, Serial Number and where we got it from.

Engineer said he's done a few of that model but had never done one twice, so the fix seems pretty good.

Was yours a business purchase?

Private purchases, from Currey's

Normally I'd just pop down to the store I brought it from and get them to sort it, obviously not an option at the moment.
Managed to borrow a TV, its much smaller & lower resolution but it will do me until lockdown ends.

Had exactly the same problem. Sony insisted on a receipt, which I didn’t have. I explained to them that it was a known problem, the TV was 2 years old and purchased from a ( now closed) Sony Centre.
I explained that all sets were sold with a 5 year guarantee. Their response was that since I couldn’t prove I was the initial purchaser and could have picked it up as a broken set from the local tip then the warranty didn’t apply!

Took me many increasingly difficult phone calls and pushing, speaking to various “managers” until eventually they gave in and repaired it without cost but the original 5 year warranty would not be extended.

It’s fine now but when it packs up I doubt I will buy another Sony and whatever I do buy I will make certain I keep any receipts. Probably but from John Lewis who seem to have great customer values.

Keep pressing and good luck
