ermm.. a couple of days ago the 'door open' warning started coming on as I drive around... if I had the window up it winds it down trying to open the door (though doesn't as car is moving*).

pushing the driver door out from inside seems to trigger it.

where's the switch here ? maybe i can fiddle with it a bit and fix it.

stu

*lucky they put that fix in to stop doors opening when moving.

Unscrew the horseshoe-shaped chrome-plated lock facia (you'll need allen keys). The microswitch is hidden behind this plate. If you're lucky, a simple positional adjustment will sort it. (When I had problems with this, the lock mounting had come loose.) If you're unlucky you'll need a new microswitch.

Powerlord/ T88CAN,

Both of your cars look suspiciously like my old one W95* VGH.

If so, then I had the same door opening issue for the two years I owned the car. It went in maybe 6 or 7 times for the dealer to fix it (including various replacing of electronic bits). It never fixed the issue.

From memory the only way you can ensure that the doors don't randomly open is to press the button that locks them (the one that stops the outside buttons functioning when you're in the car).

Could be the emergency door release cable too tight and when the body flexes it pings the door open. Was a common problem in earlier cars. Not in mine of course
Try using the emergency release(put the window down first) a couple of times to see how tight it is.
cheers

Edited to add: Just re-read the first post, and it's more likely it's a switch fault, probably as Itchy described below.

It should be next to the immobiliser socket, to the left of the steering column. Flashing green LED.

Tony,

This is a topic that seems fairly common and perhaps many mechanically capable owners can benefit from the knowledge. Can you post a brief procedure for all to see?

did mine at the weekend.

basically you take the plate around the lock off (the chrome bit on the car). On mine this was just 3 n01 posi-drive screws.

When the plate was off it was obvious what the problem was: the two torqx headed screws holding the lock in place with completely loose. I tightened them both, then 'locked' the lock by pushing the lock in... checked the microswitch was engaged, unlocked it with the stereo buttons, and did it again a few times to check it was all fine. Put plate back on and job done. no more 'door open ' warnings.

Mine was the opposite, the strike plate on the DOOR,
If you lent against the door the warning would go off
the plate had moved slightly over a very rough (high speed) surface, you could see where it used to be,
you need a tool very simular to "circlip" plyers
turn the round plate "anticlockwise" to slacken the plate then adjust and tighten, the door now also opens more "aggressivley" i.e it pushes out a bit more when you open the door
