70% Alcohol sanitiser should burn, right?

Ordered a large bottle of sanitiser off Amazon market place. "70% alcohol highly flammable" warnings on the label.

It didn't have the usual smell of hand sanitiser I've ever used so I poured a little out and put a match to it.

Nothing!

Could well be fake or I could be wrong. Careful were your buying this stuff from.

From what I am reading it should burn.

I remember being involved with a thread on here about petrol and contrary to what I thought was sensible lots of people said they would be comfortable throwing a lit match into a bucket of petrol and it would just go out.

It’s not something I would try.

I do have experience of flambé pancakes and even with strong spirits you do need to preheat it a bit before it will light.

If you put a little of it on the back of your hand, you should feel it go cold as it evaporates (due to the endothermic re action) at least this will tell you if it has any alcohol in at all.

Should burn, yes,as the bloke at work who applied some before popping out for a tab found out!

A match would ignite it.
It would take your eyebrows with it !
A fag end would not.
Tried loads of times as a kid !
However if you throw a lighted match into Diesel it wont ignite. It just goes out.
I think Mythbusters tried it.

This is whats in the stuff we are using. Nice and cold and evaporates.

Diesel is pretty forgiving. I saw someone weld a bracket back on to a full, and overflowing, tank fill tube on a tipper truck. From a distance.
