I'm thinking about changing my car and had 3 options on my mind..

575 Maranello F1 with Fiorano pack
Gallardo
Or wait another year or so and get a 612 Scaglietti

On all of them I would be thinking a late used example to take the major first time hit out of the equation.

The benefit of option 3 is that having kids I rarely get to use the 360 as we always need more than 2 seats so the 612 would be more practical.

Any opinions from existing owners or alternative suggestions welcomed.

Cheers

Hang on for a 612 I think - having spent a bit of time nosing around several at Maranellos yesterday I seriously impressed.

Having said that I don't think they're shifting that many (well they are nearly 200k!) so you might not have a lot of choice on colour etc when you come to buy...

Picked up a 612 last week. Seriously impressive piece of kit. Plenty of legroom in the back as long as you're not 6ft+ although the boot is a bit stingy. There's a small area under the boot floor for stowing gear which comes in useful. The remote boot release on the key fob malfunctioned too. Don't order the Becker satnav stero head unit. Damn thing's next to useless.

If you do choose to order, get one in black. Saw one the other day and it looks the business!

I would think you will still take a big hit on a 612 even if you buy in a years time.

Just look at the residuals on the 456 they only now seemed to have stabilised at the £45K plus level after 10 years.

Fantastic car but will still loose a lot of cash each year.

I would go for a 575 with Fiorrano pack. Still probably loose a few quid but they are looking good value at the moment.

Residuals may well be better on the 612 by dint of the fact that it's a brand new car. The 575M is due for replacement next year and will suddenly look very old indeed.

True but 4 seater V12 Ferrari's do not exactly have a good history when it comes to residuals!

Those 2 comments are exactly what I thought and exactly sum up my dilema!!

The driving is the important bit so give both a play before you buy. I think you may be surprised to find that the 612 is actually a bit of an animal. It's amazing the way the car drives for it's size. From that point of view it can do almost everything a 575 can do AND have some space in the back.
I think most people would consider the 575 a better looking car but there is something almost Rolls Royce Phantom -like about a 612 on the road - particularly in dark colours.
As for depreciation....well... whichever car you buy, you're in for a bumpy ride. 612 is A HUGE amount of car and some are up for £130K already.

Get the cheapest Gallardo you can find/deal on - AND a 997 "S" for everyday use (and to allow the kids to travel with you!)

Tough choice, but having seen a titanium 612 on the road the other day, I'd be sorely tempted. It's stunning.

(just get it in a dark colour).

The danger is though that I end up like I am now, only using the 2 seater to go to work in (circa 5 mile round trip) and that's it, the nicest car gets used the least.

I know many folks keep Ferraris / Lamborghinis locked away for 99% of the time and only use them occasionaly, but I can't see the point of that.

I've got an Audi A4 cabriolet for sunny wafting with the family and the Caterham for sunday blasts on my own / track days, then the wifes got a Volvo XC90 for big family jobs, so additional car is probably not sensible.

I think that from some of the comments here I'm comming to the conclusion that I ought to give it another 10 months and get a 612 then when they're down to more sensible money.

On the other hand that black 575.......oh no, here I go again!

What's up with it if you don't mind me asking..?

To get back on topic, I'd hold off for a 612. They're great things! or get a Murci!

Tuan,

Problem with a mis-fire and the process of establishing the cause (which has been quite a laborious process - especially with the relative lack of support form Automobili Lamborghini in Italy) - hopefully now resolved.

Hope to have the car back sometime this month!

Even though I had some stunning invites to Le Mans (inc all the loverly "hospitality" benefits) I couldnt make it due to work commitments! Bugger! always next year!

It must be the month for it. I took mine down to Lambo London the other week to sort out a knocking it'd developed (300 mils round trip, £120 in fuel)

They replaced the front anti roll bar ball joints.

20 miles from home... knocking again!

They have a feeling it's the rear ones. Great(!) It's now another 300 miles, £120 and a day off work...

Which leads me to ask, as it's a "non specific Lamborgihini" problem, could any decent garage look at it...? I'm thinking a car's still a car after all, albeit a bit more expensive...

Sorry for going off topic.

Why won't they pick the car up? Official UK car isn't it? warranty etc etc . Guess you paid top $ for the car, so demand some service
