If you must do it in situ I'd use a brush. Wire brush any loose stuff off fist. It will look naff but so will spraying if you don't do appropriate prep which you can't realistically do with the calipers still fitted to the car.

What I’ll do, I’ll try wire brushing it but if it won’t budge then I’ll just take the calliper off.

Also, what grit sandpaper would you recommend.. no rust on it as the old paint is still there. So many people say 260 (some say it’ll gauge the metal) then some say 1000.

If the existing paint is good, 260 or 300 should be fine to scuff it up enough to take a new coat (though I can't see the original question now). 1000 is appropriate for the final stages of flatting down of high-build primer on a smooth bodywork surface like a wing. I don't think the surface of your caliper (if they're like mine) is ever flat enough to need the use of 1000 grit paper.

Stick some of those "Brembo" plastic cover on them, much quicker, cheaper and the end result looks much better!

Foliatec calliper paint it quite good and goes on with a brush.
