Morning
Let’s say in the next few weeks you were to receive almost £150k after the sell of an inherited house, after being split with some brothers. You’ve used your ISA allowance and maxed out premium bonds. You don’t want to put it anywhere near the stock market because You want to keep the cash for a future possible house move. Where would you put it safely to maybe get 1 to 2% interest. Would you look at perhaps a bond that pays interest after a few years?

Thanks

Safe , yes , but only 0.7% interest.

I`d do a shares portfolio and split it between 2 suppliers to keep each investment under the "safe" threshold. They are currently returning far better than 0.7%

split in half. Half in a 1year fixed saver with marcus at 1.45%, half with oaknorth in a 2 year account at 1.65%. But you'd need to be confident you didn't need the money....

OP is considering buying a house with the money in a few years, this is a terrible idea.

Using the word 'safe' in this context is misleading - the limit protects you from the platform going bust or outright scamming you, but doesn't protect you from the real risk which is the market.

I read that its a "possible" purchase in a few years time and can only draw on my own experience and returns. Yes , the market can go up as well as down. Just food for thought.

What would you do given your job then ??

Asset-liability matching.

What that means for me (personally) is that I'm still investing my ISA and pension 80% in equities, but when I (hopefully) sell my flat in a few weeks time I'll keep the proceeds in cash while I look for the next place to buy.
