Hi,
With Missus expecting and likely to be the size of a hot air balloon by peak summer I'm thinking about buying a portable AC unit.
Does anyone have any recommendations in the 2-300 quid mark?
Igenix seem to be quite loaded up are they worth the money? Also it sounds like it has a mobile app as well.

Everything you want to know about those units can be found here, with a bit of rambling included :

The tip for "relocating the temp sensor" is very valuable, I did that on mine and it really cools down now.
I have a portable one installed semi-stationary in my bathroom, hot air goes straight out, water too,
but since the design of the intake is not very clever it sucks air from the bathroom, thus creating a little vacuum.
I run a big 5m long 150mm flex tube from bathroom to either living room or bedroom,
so in a heatwave my flat resembles BRAZIL appartments, but for the 3 weeks / year it is OK.
I plan to have a real split-aircon installed , as the heatwaves won´t get less in future.

I have to agree that portable A/C units have their shortcomings. You can purchase one with higher BTU which cools more efficiently however that would consume more electricity and generally have noisier compressors.
Personally I only need one for a few days of the year and it's not really ideal to install a full sized AC unit in my house so I can live with the downsides.

We got a split a/c unit installed in our garden studio last year. Honestly it’s the best £1500 we have ever spent.
Good to know a price. Was that price inclusive of installation and VAT?We have solar panels, so that would reduce the cost to zero during the day at least. What’s the BTU rating on it and the room size?

If I had the spare cash I would install it in our house without question. The units are actually quite efficient at heating too.people scoffing at me for doing it in the uk, I get the last laugh, every. single. summer. and especially this year with everyone wfh
