Using Android phone as an encrypted backup option
Discussion
Apologies in advance for what might be a silly, or indeed deeply flawed question!
Is it possible to create an encrypted space on an Android device to back up files from a computer, instead of say using a USB drive to do the same?
Files are already cloud hosted, but I like to keep an offline backup as whilst I've been using cloud storage for years, I like the security of a locally saved copy.

A few encrypted USB sticks kept in a drawer and regularly rotated is probably the cheapest and most reliable form of tertiary backup you can get. What are you hoping to achieve by introducing the complexity and potential attack vectors of a phone?
Nothing aside from simplicity. To be honest, my files are not super-sensitive by any means. The USB stick I currently use (32Gb) is nearing capacity, and my phone has well in excess of 100Gb available!
