£25k... F80 M3/M4 or a Clio V6?

Hi Everyone,
Looking to change my car in the next 6 months. It’s between these two, the 2014 M3/M4 or the Clio V6, very different options I know!
Car will be used as a “daily” covering around 10000 mpa. I also have use of a family members 2018 6 Series so not too fussed about my new car being comfortable. Just want something entertaining, that I can do a couple of track days in and not loose a fortune on!
The F80’s are now entering the sub £25k mark for an Approved Used BMW, which i would definitely go for as worried about the potential big bills on a 6 year old M Car. Whereas I would be looking at the Phase 1 Clios which start around £20k, am I right in thinking parts eg Brakes, Clutches, Tyres would be cheaper on the Clio? I’ve read the cambelt change is a bit of a pain as the engine has to come out the back, every 5 years
!
In 5 years the F80 would probably be worth around £15k, and hopefully the Clio won’t have depreciated? Baring in mind both cars will probably have an additional 50000 miles on the clock.
The Clio V6 has always been a dream car of mine, and feel if I wait any longer they’ll go up in value even more do we think they will appreciate like the Renault 5 Turbo did?

Are parts a problem?
Otherwise they were fairly trouble free back then, understressed mechanicles, not ridiculously thirsty.

That’s my thoughts exactly, although I do 10k a year it’s rarely motorway miles. Mainly nipping around town and B Roads. Are parts a problem?

My only concern is whether il be able to cope with the lack of Bluetooth and Heated Seats
The M3 is definitely a lot better value for the money.I ran a Ph2 V6 as a daily for around 4 years a while ago and it was great, not as many miles as you are planning on doing though, as they’re getting on a bit, parts are becoming a pain to get and rust seems to be an issue from what I’ve seen following SG (V6 specialist) on a Facebook.
They’re definitely going up or at least holding their value but I expect doing a further 50,000 miles on one would ruin any chance of making money.
As for the F80 M3/M4, my mate has one and I’ve been fortunate enough to spend a good amount of time driving it and it doesn’t really do a lot for me, certainly fast but dull to drive and sounds crap. I much prefer his previous E46 and E92 M3

Thanks, interesting to hear that. The Clio V6 May just have to remain a dream for now, until I can afford/ have the space to run and keep 2 cars. The other option is the F10 M5 which seems to be a pretty good car going off the Internet! M3 (had one) is insanely boring to drive for a supposed M car. Look fab for sure but for daily driving Id rather be in a 335d estate
Not a fab steer and equally numb to drive but at least the depreciation is less, running is half the cost and point to point in normal traffic equally as quick
You can then either save the budget and buy a toy or bank it

M6 always creeps in to my shortlist.I look at M2's and M3's at £25k, and see that you can get AUC M6 for £30k and think it's so much more car for the money.
Maybe I'm missing something with them and they just aren't very good cars to own?

I have to disagree at this price point the M3 will depreciate less than a 340i/335d at this price (lets use the 340i just to keep it as a fair comparison) point fuel wise they won't be that far apart but the running costs will be higher with a lot of that being offset by depreciation. I would say Clio although never driven one, so not sure how they are - esp when it is cold and wet and you are a little tired - seems like a short wheelbase and a lot of weight in the rear
Can you get a Z3 M Coupe for 25k in the UK? I had one and loved it - might be a better option than the Clio and a lot more fun than the M3

I agree. In the nicest possible way, it's a Clio. A bonkers Clio but a Clio all the same. It needs to be driven, not covered up in a garage.Are parts a problem?
