Firstly, hello all you Porsche owners,
I am new to this forum as been away from Porsche ownership for many years after owning 2 early Boxsters' in S guise. I have fond memories of these especially the plastic rear window in my first one!!

Anyway, considering another Porsche purely for fair weather and holiday type use. Being retired I have the advantage of making the most of fair weather and extended holidays.

Now to my -current- thinking. I do not want another Boxster but I do want a Porsche and I do want a convertible which gives me an additional dimension to driving as it's very satisfying to drive down beautiful country roads with the hood down with an engine tucked behind your left ear... Being of a certain vintage I think a more mature 911 is the order of the day. I do not have a particularly large budget which in some ways is a good thing as it forces me to concentrate my scope on older model cars which have a certain panache about them. A particular model which has -in my opinion- one of the most distinctive rears in the automobile kingdom is the 997.2 C4S Cab, Automatic. I think with my budget of around £40k I will be looking at model year 2009-2010 but my understanding is that cars of this age are not available from OPCs' so will need to go to a Indi or Private so would appreciate some advice/recommendations of the Do's and Don'ts especially were warranties are concerned. It will probably be the last Porsche I ever own so not overly bothered about depreciation but on the other hand I am.....

Probably no point typing any more as by now you are either fed up seeing questions like this or have fallen asleep with lockdown syndrome.

Thanks in advance

Had one and loved. I'd go have a look at this http://www.911virgin.com/porscheforsale/1412/9974S...

PDK C4S cab has been the best VFM used 911 for the last 2-3 years. You just missed a corker of a manual 997.1 C2S cab 911v still have on their website. Sold in a flash they're such good summer fun cars. Perfect through winters too no different to owning a coupe and as good as a SUV in snow.

RPM, RSJ, JZM, Williams Crawford, Portiacraft all tend to have nice 997 C4S stock too. Ours keeping a 458 honest. Wasn't much in it 560bhp v 385bhp. Great fun smile

Thanks for this. Incidentally what's your view on Independents generally and their warranties assume 12 month max on their stock?

I've only bought from two independents. 911 Virgin and Hairpin Co. Both as good as Porsche to deal with. I hear all the others are too maybe others will chime in who have used the others. Paragon should be in that list. Probably loads more but these are the best Indies,

Hey,
What about this one but it's a 991. Nice though... Is it better than a 997?

You can get an independent to add a full OPC two year warranty, it’s simple to do. Will be a buyers market. Or you can do it yourself but I think only after you have owned a car for three months.

That sounds more like it to me..... but I guess with an OPC warranty you are tied into having services carried out by a main Porsche dealer.

Wow I'd buy the black 991 C2S cab its a much better cab. That seems a really top buy if its a nice one. I'm sure Offical Porsche Dealers sell these early 991 too? More complicated car so definitely worth getting the warranty for extra peace of mind.

Yep,
But hankering for the 997 don't know why but it seems more appealing and AWD isn't a bad thing plus I'm already looking at cars above my budget!! Who would have guessed that a bigger but is more desirable!!, LOL. Men and motors a.....

Had a C4S Cab and loved it. 55 reg kept to 94k miles. Needed to get into PDK as joints are getting dodgy. 997 is a great generation car, handy size but practice of two on a 10 day trip. It covered most of Scotland and lots of France.

This one at Ashgood looks nice, I haven’t had any dealings with them but they seem to have been around a while.

That looks nice. Heated seats a must and not always speced in cabs!
If I was buying today I’d prob put a new double din entertainment system in it to get up to date connectivity.

You maybe lucky enough to buy from a main dealer and get an approved warranty as they will be looking to to do as many deals as possible at the moment for obvious reasons , you will also get an approved warranty, as apposed to the pathetic warranty from the indies..

I got my C4S from Harbour Cars in January, they were a pleasure to deal with and the car was well prepped. They have a cab in at the moment: https://www.harbourcars.com/used-car-details/Porsc...

Assume a lot of Indi dealers would not want to go down that road as they would argue that their warranty was sufficient or have you found otherwise?

They've got a good reputation & if that checks out I'd say (in these terrible times) that's a very fair price.

Clearly they won’t but it’s all in the negotiation and remember it’s not all cost....by them supplying the car with a two year Porsche warranty they are then relieved of the risk of either paying for a warranty or running the risk themselves. So should only be a few hundred quid.

In these times you should be able to get it included. if they won’t I’d walk as for a dealer to not want to sell a car over a cost of a few hundred quid over the next year would worry me about the car.

Just a passing comment to keep this Thread alive for a few hits longer... I think it won't be too long before my £40kish budget gets me into a 991 which may be the better long term option?

I would take a well looked after 997 over a ropey unloved 991.
This thread has brought back warm memories of my 997c4s that I owned a few years back.

Thanks great picture. I too enjoy trips through France often it's motoring heaven on their Route Nationale roads however, do you think you would have enjoyed your trips as much in a hard top Porsche?
