Hi, currently using the Superhub 2 and just been told by Virgin they are sending me a Superhub 3. Firstly is the 3 any good?

My 2 is connected to (modem only mode) an ASUS RT-AC68U router. Can’t remember the reason for doing this now.. but basically WiFi is very poor in parts of the house furthest from the Superhub/ASUS combo.

Money no object. What would you guys do if starting from scratch and going back to the Virgin box on the wall (which my Superhub screws into). I can buy the stuff through the business. My only ask is that it’s VERY easy for me to set up, and also I don’t want to be running cables all around the house. So basically what I need is the best money no object easy alternative to the standard Virgin kit that will give me seamless WiFi throughout a 5 bed house with brick internal walls. And what should I do with this Superhub 3 when it arrives? smile

Cheers

No the superhub 3 is garbage. I’d be putting that into modem mode and if money is no object setting up a ubiquiti unifi mesh setup. If cost is a consideration the Tenda MW6 is well received by PH members.

Put the hub into modem only mode and get 2 or 3 (depending on size of house and drop off) Orbi mesh WiFi routers.

I have one in the office far side of the house with computer hard line into that, living room kit all hardline into the master, no discernible drop in service through out the house. Really simple to set up, visitor guest network so don’t need to hand out password to everyone, and reliable.

Other options out there but this has been running like this for couple years now and no issues.

Tenda MW6
Deco M4
Netgear Orbi

Things have moved on from Ubiquiti

Really? I have an MW6 setup as do a few other family members but I installed a unifi with 3 AP’s at work before Christmas and the results have been far better than the Tenda which I find does still drop signal quite often (but nowhere near the level of VMH3). The Orbi I think have won quite a few awards.

2.4 Ubiquiti performance is piss poor

Really appreciate the replies - thanks!

Ok, so I'm not going to rush in and buy anything immediately, I'll wait for a few more replies and do a bit of reading up on the Mesh systems.

You guys seem to like the Orbi. Looks good. However just noticed there is a new Orbi coming - worth waiting for? https://www.netgear.co.uk/orbi/rbk852.aspx

Keep well away from VM hub 3 as others have said.
They are just pure unadulterated SH**E.

If you want easy to setup I can recommend the Google Nest mesh setup - 10 minutes using the app. Mine's hooked up to a Virgin hub 3 and gets the full speed in every corner of my house with only one extra point downstairs.

Definitely sounds like Mesh is the way forward then. I know you guys have given me your recommendations but is there a "best" Mesh system? I could Google the answer but would rather hear from people that have tried or experienced them in the flesh smile

Middling to very good
Often the concrete walls are easier to get through than some boards that seem designed to shield signals

It's worse than that. Fortunately, all of my streaming devices use 5.

Have decided to cable up instead of taking a gamble with a mesh system. Just have to drill two holes & take the cable through two rooms.
Just did an ookla speedtest & got 86mbps via TP Link adaptors then ran a cable the long way & got 220mbps.
Got to be worth the hassle of drilling & hiding a cable.

Absolutely.
In our housed which is a large place we had ethernet cabling done to ethernet sockets in most of the rooms
I then set up some access points that were actually routers with an access point function on them
Our Superhub 3 is in modem mode and it feeds a Draytek NON WIFI router. That router then connects to a switch which feeds the various sockets.
To be fair we have wifi pretty much everywhere and having kids we know it gets well used.
