Boring topic but I need to know where van cargo dimensions are measured between.

For example on the Citroen Relay the interior width is stated as 1870mm. Is that the distance between panel skins or the structural beams? Is that measurement necessarily uniform (excusing wheel arches) or the minimum width if the overall width is variable?

A fixed bed's very important and the dims suggest I can have a standard(ish) length bed spanning in the transverse direction so I can use the small wheel base vehicle. I'm about 6 feet tall.

I can’t really help with the specific measurement points but I have a hymercar which is based on a Ducato and it has a transverse bed. I am 5’10 and it is ok for me.

I'm not sure on the dimensions but its generally accepted that the Ducato and relay are wide enough (just) for a transverse bed in a panel van conversion. Transits and sprinters are a little narrower so fine if your only 5'8 but you'll struggle if you're taller.

Thanks for the replies. I think a Relay/Boxer/Doblo type van might just work. Need to find the van now.

Another option is to put a pop top roof in it, my transverse bed is suitable for 2 but is not a full double, but it also has a pop top and that bed is massive.

My van is a L3 so 6m but could be done on a L2.
