Approximately 5 minutes ago, lava could be seen exiting its orifice and rolling down its left side

Was just away to comment, scrolled back (didn't realise it'd let me do that!) and it was pretty spicy around 2AM. Very cool.

Thank you, that was big

All keep well

Have been attempting to move the slider on small screen with great difficulty, full screen is much easier, was slow there

Dramatic. Thanks for that.

I think there's a chance they might ground air flights.

So am I, and I don't mean cigarettes.

It's a regular spewer, isn't it, but it's not a view I'd like to see out of my living room window. On the satellite image on Google Maps you can see the culprit: the dirty great subduction zone running along the west coast. It's more than a little scary. I went to see Vesuvius a couple of years ago and the guide was very nonchalant when he explained that an eruption was overdue and that the land to the west had been rising for some years. A 'sure sign' we were told.

We'd visited Pompeii earlier that day - tremendous! I'd been anticipating it for a week or so and was worried that reality might not live up to expectations, but, if anything, it was better. And then onto the source of all the pumice. I love Italy, but I'd not want to live near Vesuvius. Nor any active/dormant volcano come to that.

It had a reasonably good cough at 04:25 this morning, still seems to be blowing every so often
