Brake Seals Failing?
Discussion
I've noticed that after a long slow brake such as slowing down on a slip road from a motorway, the brake peddle seems to reach full travel by the time I stop. It seems that fluid could be leaking around the seals in the master cylinder.
The brakes still work fine for a quick stop.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
If it is the seals, can they be replaced?
Cheers
John

I had a similar problem last week - it seems that the seal around the piston in the master cylinder had gone - so push the pedal and the fluid went around the piston and the brakes felt like they weren't going to stop the car. My dealer is replacing the master cylinder so should be o.k. - I experienced the problem as rolling back when the brakes were on - oh and one brown trouser moment when I thought I was going through the lights
without stopping !
without stopping !Steve (mechanic) at Gorner's said that this was one pig of a job - it took them two days to do.
Apparently the whole steering rack and most of the drivers dash etc comes out so that they can get underneath, he rebuilt it out of the car and then put it all back in - I was lucky it was under warranty otherwise, me thinks good couple of hundred just in labour - sorry to be harbinger of doom here
Can't recommend Gorner's enough though they're great - don't know if they;re local to you - Wigan - North West - good luck by the way I can't half feel the difference now though !
