I am looking to do some preemptive maintenance on my E46 330ci.

No unusual noise from the DISA valve but want to use some time now to do the ‘upgrade’.

Are any of the multitude of similar kits a stand out buy or is there any that are recommended?

Thanks.

I did mine earlier this year.

TBH I just bought a new one, Febi Bilstein: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311675658260

In January, was £106. Price gone up to £119 now. You might be able to find cheaper.

There are quite a few kits out there where you can rebuild the DISA. In fact on my thread Dan mentioned:

Re the DISA, I’d personally rebuild it using the X8R kit and fit their replacement gasket that goes between the valve and intake body. Peace of mind then and it’s only c£60 and 30 mins job smile
HTH. smile

It's quite straight forward to replace. Just be careful on refitting you don't damage the rubber on the flap surround. There's a bit of a technique in getting it in at the right angle (as the actress said to the bishop).

Rebuilt mine on Saturday using this kit from ebay for £40.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152577412168

Engine now alot stronger when accelerating from low revs, most probably due to replacing the missing O ring, plus MPG has increased;

Before;

note the end pin that holds the flap in place is just held with friction

OEM parts on the left, upgraded ebay parts on the right.

Here is a link to another more expensive repair option, along with how to fit the kit;

I fitted the more expensive aluminium option from the XR8 website when my car developed a lean running code (new O ring was all I really needed). Its a nice looking thing that removes the failure mode where the pin can fall out of the OEM item and cause problems for you. I think it was £65'ish, would highly recommend as its a simple job.

on routine inspection of my high mileage DISA valve some time back I measured the DISA nose to intake cavity and on my M54 2.5 that pin cannot come out as it sits only a few MM from the inlet manifold divider when fitted , common sense if you think about it scratchchin but can only assume some intake manifolds may allow the pin to walk out and be consumed by the engine frown I wanted to be sure my engine didnt go out like that I am still on the original with no kit in place

Thanks everybody.

I have just ordered the one from X8R so should have it changed over by the end of the weekend ready to use the car.

Done!

Not quite as straightforward as I had hoped.

The fixture on the rear of the unit, that connects to the control arm, did not want to come out. I could not find my needle nosed pliers so had to use the next best thing.

The damn thing shared so I ended up having to drill it out!

All back together and we will see if it runs well or the engine explodes tomorrow!

After the fun of drilling out the cam / spindle, it all went together quite well.

Driven it 200 miles and it’s still running!

No noticeable change, but the old one seemed fine and not indicating imminent failure so was not expecting to feel any difference.

It is peace of mind though!
