Timeless and lockdown
Discussion
Hello,
My DB9 is misfiring quite a lot so needs looking at, it is giving an 'emissions service drive slowly' warning on the dash.
The car is covered by timeless but the dealer is closed. Any suggestions? I have emailed AM Cambridge for advice but nothing.
Normally it is a second car to an EV so no hurry, but as luck would have it my work is taking me all over the country (on one of the emergency ventilator projects) so an ICE car would be pretty bloody useful.

Do you use Twitter? Tweet the details about your work and car to Andy Palmer and I'm sure someone will be in touch. My DB9 is misfiring quite a lot so needs looking at, it is giving an 'emissions service drive slowly' warning on the dash.

I've done that in the past and someone from Gaydon has emailed me same day having figured out who I am and found my VIN.
Andy Palmer takes social media very seriously.
Good luck with your work and getting your car fixed.

I think all will be OK for now, I am where I need to be (complete with EV) so am not with the car to action any proposed resolution anyway.I've done that in the past and someone from Gaydon has emailed me same day having figured out who I am and found my VIN.

Thanks all for the suggestions, should have thought of Twitter before it seems to usually get good results.

As an HWM customer, I had no idea this existed oilit said:
Also, Works have advertised they are doing repairs for essential workers - on all types of cars, so you may find they woudl do it if you are involved in ventilator builds ???
I have got a badge that lets me push in at the local Waitrose and a letter saying that I am a key worker and my (non existent) kids could stay in school so that should work. NB I would not dream of using said badge, but it exists!LTP said:
Probably teaching granny to suck eggs here, but according to Mike at Bamford Rose a misfire on V12s is what can cause them to ingest their cats, resulting in a new engine being required.
I wouldn't even start it.
Unless, of course, you've had the de-cat mods done.
How on earth does an engine ingest a cat, the cats are fitted in the exhaust system, isnt it?I wouldn't even start it.

See the shiny things on bottom right manifolds, just below the ports.

You can catch up by reading about this V12 specific issue here:https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
In VANTAGE issue #Winter 2019 (the one with the big Vantage VH2/AM305 feature) McGurk explicitly confirmed the existence of the problem - so there is perhaps more to it than just scaremongering.
For those really interested in the details, here's a link to Mike's YouTube video explaining just how the V12 can swallow bits of catalyst core

Mike was an engine development and calibration engineer with Aston at Gaydon so he knows of what he speaks

So as someone who may want a V12 Aston at some point how can I ensure that the any car I consider will not, or has not, suffered this fate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiCerrUQRGM

Many many years ago I spent a happy afternoon using a cold chisel and a long bar hammering the cat innards out of the pre cat's in a V6 Mondeo I had. Needed a few long hard revs to pass the MOT after than I can tell you.
i thought i would never have to do the same ever again.
I feel the V12 desire waning already.
Cheers,
Tony

In all seriousness it is a very rare occurrence and if you were cynical you could say it helps sell his exhaust manifolds.
