With the new ones only 6 months away, would I be foolish to buy one now or should I Wait?

If you haven't got one already, are you really going to be the sort to buy a new console at launch?

And even then, will these actually going to be launching in 6 months?

What do you want to play and what do you want to spend? The new consoles are going to be expensive at launch.

IF you fancy dropping around 600 quid at christmas, wait.
If you just like gaming and want hundreds of top games to choose from pick up a bargain.
These current games will still be played for years and the current will be support by games too.

I used to buy a console close to launch every time but the newest one I have is a PS3 500gb. We use it for blue ray I cannot remember which year I last used it for games

However as our kids are now getting to a certain age I’m pondering buying an Xbox series x or PS5 at launch as it will be the console that lasts for a decade so yes it’s likely to be £350-499 for the console. Remember even after then they are still very usable consoles.

I’ve got my ps1 Xbox 1 PS3 wii mega drive C64 all still in perfect working condition. Will never get rid of them unless they break. Got so many games all are still good.

I’ve looked at the Xbox one X it looks a great console - BUt can I still really use it in ten years time or will it be only the new model that offers all the latest games. Will the Xbox series x online part still be functioning or shut down?

But if you want something now you have no choice and I’ll wager the Xbox one x will be a superb machine. If you rarely use it and only use it occasionally then it will be fine.
I’d wager it will also decrease in price as soon as the Xbox series x release but again with C19 that could be 6/9/12/? In the future.

ALL of the reviews of the Xbox series x is about power launch price and product/games. Microsoft have been looking hard at the failure of Xbox one vs the PS4. It looks likely they will match Sony or be even more radical and under cut Sony to win this generation of games consoles.

The Xbox one isn’t cheaply priced currently so in my eyes it’s a weak deal to buy an old model at a strong price vs buying next gen for barely any different.

Buying a new platform early is pointless. You pay a premium for everything and the launch (or soon after) games are rarely anything that special. And if you do play online, you'll be waiting on your mates to upgrade so you can play together anyway.

Right now is a bit of an odd time for the outgoing platforms though. As they're still current and everyone is forced to stay at home prices haven't been moving and I'm pretty sure I paid less for my PS4 a couple of years ago. There's still a massive back catalogue of great games to play though, most of which can be had very cheaply. If you've got (enforced) time on your hands now, enjoy the current generation for what it is.

I'm still using an S. Granted I only play BF and Forza or Project Cars but other than graphics (will I tell the difference if not side by side?) Then it still plays the same games. We're not talking about Megadrive Vs master system here.

Well an Xbox one S would easily do that much cheaper than the Xbox one x

Then again think 5 years time - you might have a 4K/10k TV and the latest Forza will be incredible. Who knows.

I’m honestly struggling to comprehend why (given the current pricing) why anyone would remotely consider an Xbox one S/X or a PS5. If they were cheap or you were at “fk you money” levels fair enough.

Do you mean wouldn't? One S is cheap and entertaining when stuck at home.

Load of tosh.

You’ll have it as the main platform for a decade.

oR you buy the old one for a few years then offload and buy the next Feb with fewer years remaining

If it costs £400 for 10 years it’s £40a year if it’s £500 it’s £50 if it’s £350 it’s £35 a year. It’s fk all difference.

Buying a Xbox one x is £350 -400 now then an Xbox series x 2 years later for £350-450 is the dumbest of dumb moves around unless you have loads of cash in a furlough situation or are so wealthy it matters not what you buy.

Buy a one S for £150 though then sell it next year for about £70 isn't much of an investment. The average chap who spends too much on Costa has saved that over the last month.

I bought an Xbox One X, just before the lockdown started, for £259 including Forza 4.

It's my first console in a long time and I decided I wanted something to play now rather than wait for the latest and greatest technology, and I haven't regretted my decision yet.

I agree with the option to wait a bit before buying a new platform. Sony pretty much always upgrade the PlayStation from the original launch model. I've always gone for the 2nd generation. Which is generally better and cheaper then the launch model.

I did the same - a One X, but after lockdown started and with the Star Wars game bundled with it. Same price. smile

I thought about waiting for the X Box Series X, but I wanted to play NOW and for the next couple of months while 'working from home'. As others have said, the new consoles will be expensive and have very few games available that will actually be able to exploit their expensive hardware.

On my One X (which also plays 4k films), games like Doom Eternal and Forza Horizon have incedible, 4k graphics and play brilliantly. I'm pleased I didn't wait.

Last few posts make very valid counters to my point.
I’ve never considered selling a console - last and only time was when I traded in my PS2 for and Xbox one (halo convinced me to offload it) at GAME the shop.

Different note/if your going to buy now or have look at this mega sale £40 games down to £12 etc.
