Rather depends on what you are after and what stage the head is. Little or Large valves
IIRC the best head for any A series is the 12G940 one off the 1275 or the MG Metro head with the larges valves (Looks rather like the one in the pic in the 6CWT van thread) But not sure with the 1098 block whether the valves will hit the block or pistons so some machine work required (pocketting)
Again IIRC the 1098 was just a long throw crank of the 998 mini. Pretty sure that's the case in the mini range.

I can't see any reason why not given they are essentially the same engine save for orientation.
Skye is correct - you can fit a 1275 head but you would need to pocket the block. Better still see if you can pick up a 12G295 Cooper head which has bigger valves than a std 998 head.
Whatever you do however check your compression ratios - I don't know much about the 948 A series and you may end up with the CR being too low or too high swapping to a different head depending on combustion chamber size.
To be fair unless you change the cam you are probably not going to see much return for your investment power wise, have you not considered going to a 1275 Sprite/Midget engine?

RE The 1275 engine swap:
They are great, got one in mine but it ends up being under-geared. I'm in the process of fitting a 5 Speed Type 9 gearbox to mine at the moment which should improve it massively.
1275 engines are starting to get a bit pricey though, (in Morris Minor terms).
Undergearing compounded by dropping to 13" wheels from 14"?They are great, got one in mine but it ends up being under-geared. I'm in the process of fitting a 5 Speed Type 9 gearbox to mine at the moment which should improve it massively.

Change the diff to a Midget/Sprite one a possibility?
(Thanks Lotobear, 12G295, couldn't remember the code.) Was a good head in it's day.
I've thrown a 1098 with 12G940 and better cam into the Heap recently (well, all action suspended due to lockdown) and am refreshing a HIF38 to bolt onto it and a better exhaust as well. Potentially think about the diff, again depends what year/spec Minor you have.
I would plump for a 1275 for wanting power, I just wanted a little bit more oomph, not a racer. Other options cost more, such as Zetec etc and a Fiat Twin isn't going to be a common find.

A good friend of mine is resto modding a traveller at the moment by transplanting full MX5 running gear - I tried to dissuade him and suggested a 1275 A with the BMW K100 conversion and a 5 speed box would be more sympathetic but he loves a challenge!I would plump for a 1275 for wanting power, I just wanted a little bit more oomph, not a racer. Still on 14s, when cruising at 60+ it's just uncomfortable, it gets used a lot, (when it's running) the gearbox ate itself anyway (Sprite one) and it was either go Type 9 which is a lot stronger or get another Sprite one.Change the diff to a Midget/Sprite one a possibility?

Carb (& decent filter) + good inlet manifold and a bigger exhaust & decent exhaust manifold made a decent improvement when I changed them. So much so that it does surprise a few people at how quick it is as it still looks stock from the outside apart from the slightly larger exhaust and only a few would even notice that.
Getting a "big valve" head is the next step for me although do like the idea of going Zetec power further down the line.
My Mini was 998 +40 rebore - 12G295 head - 731 cam, duplex timing gear and a Trickey modified 1.5" SU ... never did get enough student grant money for the LCB !!
No mention of mapped fuel injection yet ?? This was bought for a pre crossflow project but is an A Series swan neck with fuel injection body ..

Would seem a good way of getting a better power band and avoid the non A series transplant ?
