Owned this for two years today.

Maintenance wise? Well it has thrown up a couple of big ticket bills. First one been a new rear alloy (it had 3 cracks on the rim due to our third world potholed like roads). I think that was about £600 from Mercedes. Last year I had the SBC pump replaced, airmatic pump, prop donut, new front discs/pads (quite cheap at £190 for Brembo) an A service and a few other bits and pieces that cost £2800 or thereabouts. Oh well, nothing lasts forever and if it needs fixing, then fix it.

Summary? It seats 4 (no problem for me), can be driven sedately or it will take off like a scalded cat if you want to. It's pretty good on fuel considering it's no lightweight and handling is quite impressive for a big car. The airmatic ride is proper wafting. Secondary cats/reasonater were removed quite quickly into my ownership. It sounds great and the cold start noise is something any petrol head should experience.

Performance wise? Wow. You really need to drive one to appreciate that they are no slouch.

MPG wise? Don't care.

Here's a few pictures that I managed to find but I will get around to doing some decent ones at some stage. It came with the single bar grill but I do have the OEM - I know this is a marmite thing for some people. I've no plan on getting rid of it.

Very nice. So, to properly run one of these then, it's always worth having £2-3k available, just in case?!

Thanks.

The SBC was on certain cars over certain years and works well, albeit a bit eye watering when it needs changing. Mine is now on 122k miles. I could have tried resetting it but thought changing it for a new one a better option. The airmatic pump and relay change, I'll put down to one of those things. Both of these parts are on some CLS/E/S class cars of different guises.

Just bad luck it happened to me. I owned a CLS500 for a while a few years ago and that ran well - just missed the extra ponies the 55 has.

I have a ML55 and am looking at buying a CLS55, or E55. I prefer the CLS55 as they look better.

Been watching a frew reviews / maintenance related items on youtube about these. Many about the SBC pump and how to reset it. In the US mercedes replaced many for free.

Do all CLS55's come with the SBC pump ? Is there a later year when they replaced it ?

I love my ML55, similar engine but without the supercharger. Ownership is ....interesting. You have to be prepared to keep the thing going and fix as you go along.

I'm sure all the 55's had them then they done away with them on the 63's but I'm not 100% sure and I've noticed as well in the USA they get treated better with warranty gear as well. I'd have been a lot happier if mine was covered by them but in theory it only needs doing once - touches wood.

As an "out of the box" car from standard they really do offer a lot.
