What do people think of this?

For me, it's significantly larger, has no headphone jack, and starting at £420 is pretty expensive for a device which shares a lot of components with a 3 year-old iPhone 8. As an original SE user, disappointed.

I mourn the loss of the headphone jack but we have to accept they aren't coming back.

I wanted a new SE last time I changed phone a couple of years but it didn't exist so I got an XS in the end. The new SE isn't any smaller, which was always the appeal to me.

I think it’s awesome - Touch ID, iPhone 11 internals, reasonably priced - if I lost my 8 I’d buy one of these for sure

Adjusted for inflation it is £4 more than the SE at launch...

What bits does it share with the 8?

The processor is from the 11, it’s more like a smaller XR than anything.

Seems like great value.

I think it nails everything I’ve been asking for for the last 3 years. Smaller. All of the functions I want. Sensible(ish) money compared to everything else.

I suspect it’ll sell boatloads.

The display and battery off the top of my head.

I'll be getting one to replace my 6S, and probably another to replace my wife's 6. It is all I need from a phone. I'd prefer a smaller one, and was annoyed when the original SE was released just after I got the 6S, but I've got used to the size over the years.

I think I'll be getting one to replace my 6S as well. I can't justify £1200 for an 11 Pro, as much as I'd like one.

I’m likely replacing a 6 and a 6S.
The 7 and 8 were no sufficiently better. The X/XS are too expensive. The XR is too big.

Conversely, it uses a great design that's not too big or too small for most people and there's a load of existing cases and accessories that fit straight on.

You get the same A13 processor as the current iPhone 11, a very good camera (including 4k video), wireless charging, 18W wired fast charging and waterproofing.

I went from the old SE to a XR. If I needed to buy a new iPhone today I'd find it very hard to justify the extra £300 or so for an iPhone 11 over the new SE although it depends how you feel about a better screen, camera and Face ID.

I also think the pricing is competitive and will keep significant numbers of people on an iPhone instead of the competition.

£469 for 128gb that seems a great price for an iPhone.

Regarding headphone jacks. I recently swapped my wires sennheisers for Bluetooth anker headphones and I can’t believe I’ve held off for so long.

But it doesn’t. It’s the same component set at the iPhone 11 bar the U1 chip.

All it shares with the 8 is the chassis, battery form and fundamentals of the screen and TouchID - as 3D Touch has now been retired.

I do think the pricing is wrong considering it’s $399 even with sales tax and the poor exchange rate of today it puts it at £100 more expensive in the UK than the USA.

Exactly. The 11 is too big, 11 Pro is too expensive. And I should also point out that my 6S has a completely shattered screen that's been held together with sellotape for the last few months while I waited for a smaller/cheaper phone, so it's not an upgrade just for the sake of it!

Love it. I currently have an iPhone 8 which I bought in October 2018 and is pretty much perfect for my needs. The idea that there's going to be something new, of the same size, with Touch ID, which I can replace my 8 with when it gets to a point where it no longer performs optimally on the newest software is great, as is the fact that it's [relatively] sensibly priced.

Replacement screen is ~£16 and easy to fit

I’ve had a 7 for a few years now, and been looking towards a new phone.

Like the look of this, especially at the price. Do feel a bit like I’d be getting the same phone again, give or take, but it is a relatively inexpensive way to give my current phone as a hand me down to my eldest.
