Hi all,

Following my uni summer ball|http://www.phillmanson.co.uk/photos/uni/summerball05/ on saturday down in Bournemouth I managed to drop and break my camera.

I obviously managed to drop it some nice sticky beer! i dried the camera off as much as I could but when I turned in on the next day the lense won't come out!

I brought the camera on the 1st March 05. What are my options? Do I just claim on my household insurance?

Its a real pain! I really liked the camera and i'm off to Tuscany on Tuesday morning for a few days so it would have been good to the camera with me!

Brittle aren't they?!!

My sister borrowed mine and trashed it within a week Hence my buying a Casio EX-Z750.

If the house insurance doesn't cover it, you MAY be able to claim on your travel insurance. I'm not saying you should, as I'd imagine it'd be outside of the T&C's, but you could...

mmmm.... that might be worth a go! I think the household insurance excess is only £50 so i'll probably just do that.

Was it just a dunking or did it take a knock?

Somewhere (possibly on the Pentax user web site?) I read about someone having problems with a lens (but can't recall if it stuck in or jammed out) which turned out to be a program issue rectified by a reset - battery out and reset button and something else as I recall.

If it is not physically damaged there may be some hope.

Apart from that the only good news is that the S5i - if you can still find one, is much cheaper than it was and the S5n that replaced it was already well under 200 quid when I last checked.

Dropped the camera as I was turning it on and in the process of trying to catch it dropped my pint all over myself with some getting on the camera.

Sorry missed this ...

S5n replaced the 5i a couple of months ago. As far as I can tell they have dropped or changed a few of the pre-programmed settings, re-styled the case, no optical viewfinder. Also the controls are a little different. Screen now 2 inch, improved video, claims for better picture processing and less noise, auxiliary AF light ....

S5z seems to be a pending (July) addition which appears to be, basically, another slight re-style of the front of the case and no optical viewfinder as the back is now filled with a 2.5 inch screen. Quite how they fit that on I am not sure. Controls must be re-positioned as well I would guess. Apart from theat the write up reads as for the S5n.

Enjoy.

Edit to add additional info.
