Hi,

Maybe I should try a garden machinery forum but I’ll try here first!

My Stihl FS 38 runs briefly but then stops. I have looked online and done the following:

Freshly mixed fuel
Removed carb, partially dismantled and checked a funny metal gauze thing that was clean anyway
Checked fuel filter which seems clean and I could blow through without an obvious obstruction
Removed air filter but made no difference

Common faults suggest a clogged spark arrestor but mine doesn’t have one of these.

The exhaust looks a bit wet and was spitting a bit. I leaned the mixture off a bit and got it running for a few seconds rather than an immediate stall.

I’m a bit stuck now so thought I’d ask for some advice please?

Thanks
Adam

Carb diaphragm ? Carp in the fuel line moving about and blocking jets/passages, switch,
If it has a pumper carb would suggest diaphragm as #1 likelihood.

I had this with my stihl hedge trimmer early on whereas the strimmer I got at the same time eas adjusts fine.

YouTube video showed adjustment screws for idle etc, that sorted mine.

Hi, can you start it up and keep it going on full throttle? is there excessive white exhaust smoke or does it smell of fuel ? are you trying to idle with the choke on?
I would change the spark plug and have a look at the magneto (coil module) for any bare wire or corroded rubber insulation? and that the gap between the magnet and magneto is 1mm
