Hi my sons van with 70K miles has engine problem. Recovery guy says bottom half is turning over slowly but no compression suggesting the drive belt has snapped. Local garage quoted £2.5K for replacement engine with around 50K miles offering 3 or 6 mth warranted. Van only worth similar price if running so is this something I could take on at home by starting to stripping engine to find whats broke and look to replace or are specialist tools required, wheres a good place to get guidance and views on £2.5k quote for engine swap out reasonable or high?

Second hand engine is the most cost effective solution especially as it sounds like you could swap it yourself.

Any good pointers on where to locate second hand engine?
Where is the engine code located on the vauxhall combo

There's some on EBay for probably less than the price of a cambelt kit and head gasket set let alone the cost bent valves etc.
