Hi Guys,

Got a bit of a problem with my car. Its got a few rust scabs that i'd like to touch. Just a bit of primer and a rattle-can nothing fancy.

The problem I'm having is my car has previously been resprayed and is now not its original colour. When ordering the paint I can find the paint code sticker but obviously that's no longer correct. It was manufactured black and is now a dark blue, I did get a can of the same manufacture/year dark blue but it miles off.

One of the areas that I need to spray is coming away from the metal, primer and all in largish chips - some as big as a 2p piece. I know in house paint you can take a example of the colour and they'll mix it up to suit. I'm wondering a) this is also possible with automotive paint. b) assuming it is could anyone offer an example of companies that can do this,

Given the virus stuff going on I was hoping to post one of my paint chips and them provide me with a recognised code - ideally the same place would also be able to provide the cans but if not i can get them online. Given its all via mail I'm assuming pretty much anywhere in the UK, but if it matter I'm in the Leeds area.

Websites, phone numbers or even just a company name of people that could possibly do this kinda is the ideal response.

Thanks in advance.

I take it you don't know what colour - as in colour name - it's been refinished in or even if it's a colour used by that car maker & that you have no way of finding out from whoever had it done?

Highly unlikely you'll get a match from a 2p sized piece.

If the fuel filler flap is painted & removable that's a better size.

As for where's open & could do a match that's the unanswerable question.

I would suggest you wait until this is over, find a local motor factor that does paint & talk to them.
It may well be that you will need to have the paint eyematched to what's on your car - as in they may need to see the car - to get it close.

You could give these a call/email & see what they say: https://www.chipex.co.uk/

A spectrometer should be your 1st point of call which will mean going to a paint factors with the vehicle or a panel off the vehicle.....when they reopen after covid-19 obviously

Spectrophotometer is what they use.
As stated, fuel flap or mirror cap will suffice.

Sorry wasnt allowed to reply last night as Im a new member.

Thanks for the replies.

Funnily enough the petrol flap needs a bit of fettling anyway so taking that off is no major hassle.
