As ever, the bay of dreams provides much frustration...

I bought an item, I waited for the item to be delivered - but it never arrived. I told the seller, and they said "give it a bit more time COVID-16 etc...", which I did, (it's still not here) and now, a week or two beyond the delivery date, I have asked for a refund.

The seller is now saying that his tracking details show it as being delivered. And that no refund can be processed until the Royal Mail reply to him, to tell them if they delivered it or not...

Problem is that when I click "track this item" it shows it as still being out for delivery.

I think the seller is trying to avoid refunding me, by making it Royal Mail's issue, but if they think they have delivered it, regardless of the fact that it never got here, I worry that eBay will just decide to close the case because "it has been delivered" based on either the seller's supposed tracking details or Royal Mail saying "yeah, we threw it in a hedge" etc...

If I open a case and send a screenshot of my tracking details, what's the likely outcome?

Why keep using eBay if you know it'll cause issues?

A week or two? That's a big difference.

It's not uncommon for deliveries to be heavily delayed in the current situation.

Exactly how many days has it been since it was sent? Royal mail second class has been painfully slow on a few occasions recently, well over a week for me for a couple of things.

If it is still showing as 'out for delivery' for you, ask the seller to provide a screenshot of where it is stating 'delivered', failing that just open a dispute with ebay and send let them deal with it,send them your screenshot and you will get refunded.

Probably the same reason I still post on here, hoping for useful input, even though I know there will be several useless answers to every post.

Useless answers don’t cause you any financial loss though.

Thanks for letting me know I'd be wasting my time suggesting anything. The other posts suggesting that some deliveries are being delayed isn't exactly useless imo.

I’ve had similar.

I just opened a case and followed the eBay process.

It does get annoying at times when people selectively quote posts and try to be insulting. rolleyes

eBay's buyer protection is rock solid. Even if you've got the item if you open a dispute you'd likely get your money back.

Open a dispute, you'll get your money back.

This. If he cannot provide a screenshot stating successful delivery (and you’ve checked your neighbours do not have the package), then simply raise a dispute. You’ll be refunded.

The seller can then raise a dispute with Royal Mail for lost post. I had to do exactly this with RM after a lost eBay item. I refunded the buyer before raising a dispute with RM, who then posted a cheque to me for the item amount - £30.

I do say check with your neighbours though. I’ve posted a few eBay items recently and a couple of buyers have said no package received - only to find it next door with their neighbour.

Proof of postage won't cut it with Ebay/paypal. The seller needs to be able to provide a tracking number to demonstrate proof of delivery.

Open a claim & wait it out. RM if that was the service they used is poorer than usual at the moment. I posted two birthday cards on the same day at the same post off ice that arrived a week apart.

Open the claim, you can always close it if the goods arrive or he issues the refund.

Try copy & pasting the tracking provided into the courtiers website tracking facility directly, I have had a couple of Ebay sales where the tracking hasn't updated quickly to reflect receipt of an item.
