Bentley Brooklands and Arnage 4.4

They look nice. What's their story?
Both bought in the past year or so, having sold my R-R Corniche FHC. The Arnage is one of the original BMW engined cars - much derided by some, but I think it's fab and is the engine the car was designed for. The Brooklands was first owned by Cecil Duckworth CBE, chairman of the Worcester Warriors rugby team. The cocktail cabinet in the driver's armrest is an interesting (and these days probably illegal!) option!ReaperCushions said:
I assume the 4.4 is the same unit across a bunch of the BMW range? Isn't it notorious for oil leaks, oil seals etc..?
I'd love one, but i'd love to think the Bentley version of the engine was better engineered.
Not that I’m aware of; mine is fine, anyway. The 6.75 engine on the later cars is legendary, but struggled to handle the power in this era and suffers a lot with head gasket failure. An expensive fix when it happens!I'd love one, but i'd love to think the Bentley version of the engine was better engineered.

A lovely brace of Bentleys.
How do they compare in refinement, performance and build quality?
You're spoilt for choice with these and your Daimler!
Thank you for sharing.
Both very refined cars, but the Arnage has the feel of a more modern car. The Brooklands has a very different, ‘old-school’ charm. Both fine cars, though! How do they compare in refinement, performance and build quality?

In a world in which twin-turbo V8's are the standard format for performance saloons (M5/ M6/RS6/S8/AMG E63 etc) I think the Green Label may be coming into it's time.
Compared to the Bentley L410TT the M62 is from another era - quad cam 4 valve per cylinder, twin turbo etc.
This must surely be scope to tune to 4.4 litre for enhanced torque & power.
I think the torch was really passed in 1987 when BMW can out with the M70. Then the Mercedes M120 was just another nail in the L-series' coffin.
Once the the Germans were producing lightweight OHC V12's the L-series really became a a dinosaur.
that said - i genuinely see the appeal of the SZ series.

What fantastic cars!
I had a test drive last year in an Arnage 6.75 and the feeling of acceleration from the passenger seat was like being in an ever-accelerating train! It was a wonderful feeling to drive, everything about it was a sense of occasion. I bought a TVR instead (very different I know, but the Bentley ran it close in terms of the want factor) but would still love one in the future.
Enjoy them both.
