As I’m sure is the case with most of you, this time off has given me plenty time to think.

I’ve been a sub contracting arborist for about 8 years now. It’s been a blast, has allowed me to live well and work all over the place but I’m falling out of love with it. It pays okay but considering the cost of kit, the danger plus the fact you run your body into the ground it just doesn’t quite seem worth it anymore. I’m only 28 with no commitments so having a complete career change isn’t that much of a big deal for me, it’s want to make sure that whatever investing time/money into is worthwhile.

I like to travel a lot and rarely work ‘full time’ which is what I enjoy about my current job the most. I used to think that I’d struggle with a ‘Normal’ job but I think I’d be happy with something a bit more sedate and get my kicks elsewhere (I rock climb, ride bikes etc)

I’ve thought about teaching English online, machine operator, something to do with boats, rope access.... all completely different I know!
If anybody does any of these or could tell me about what they do part time/contracting wise or has suggestions on a direction to look into it’d be much appreciated!

Rope access could be a good move, but still going to be hard on the body, money not great till you get to level 3,lots jump into it through training n re settlement grants,IRATA the training body
Rail job pretty quiet at the mo but if hs2 continues tearing up the countryside plenty of cutting there

Got a mate that does rope access and it does interest me. Seems way better regulated and paid properly compared to tree work.
