Every week or so have been warming up my rapide (2010) but went out today and have a dead battery. I popped the bonnet to find the battery to attach a trickle charger and its not there! At the risk of confirming my mechanical ineptitude any direction on where the battery is / how to attach to a charger!

Thanks and keep safe

Should be a plastic cover with a big red + on it under there. Attach the red connection to the stud under the cover and the other black connection to a convenient metal body connection. Should be a stud somewhere close.

Modern Astons don't have batteries anymore - it's all done by magic ;-)

Incidentally, warming your car will deplete the battery unless it's on a trickle charge regularly. The amount of power necessary to crank the engine is more than the volts that are put back into the battery during the warm up process.

Also, ensure you give the engine a good warming up as the acid created as a by product of the exhaust gasses isn't good for the exhaust. As everything comes up to temperature, the gasses get burnt off by the cats, so better to let warm up for longer than shorter.

brilliant thanks, found the + terminal (the red paint has worn off so took me a little while, i really am inept with this stuff!) and any near by stud will do for the other terminal?

thanks again

If its the original 2010 battery, it will need replacing, and its located under the right back seat squab.

The Trickle charger cable on mine comes out from under the drivers side rear passenger seat.

Any nearby stud as long as you get a connection to 'earth' you will know if it has made a connection because the charger display should show it is charging.

There are a couple of locations on my V8V which aren't particularly good connections, probably because of rubber mountings etc, so I just move the neg clip around until I find a good one, mine is an old type trickle charger and the gauge swings up as soon as I get a good connection.

Hi all

Apologies to the OP for dropping in on their thread but hopefully better than starting a new one.

I started my vanquish the other day and left it running for 45 mins to charge the battery. Given this lockdown is going on for a while now I suppose it would be better to get a trickle charger. Can anyone recommend which one?

Also is 45 mins running enough time to charge the battery on a vanquish?

Thanks

Any charger will do, but better off spending a little more on a conditioner style charger that has maintenance modes you can leave on for longer periods. CTEK MX5 is popular, Optimate also good quality. I have both on cars/bikes.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-MXS-5-0-Reconditions...

I dont think you charge the battery from empty to full in 45 mins, but will top it up a bit.

Usually I drive longer pleasure journeys or hundreds of miles on business every week. In recent weeks just nipping around local shops I may do 4-5 start cycles in less than 20 mins running time and the battery never gets chance to charge back up, then you end up parking it away 1/2 capacity. So I just plugged the charger in again when I got back from shopping yesterday. Its taking quite a few hours at 5 amps to fully charge.

...or you can take a longer route home smile

Ctek Mx5 + cigarette lighter adapter to connect to socket in boot. I have cteks for each of the toys, oldest one has been running for over a decade now without issues.
