Can anyone shed any light on this one?

My 2016 2.3 130 ps Ducato loses power when under load causing the hill holder unavailable message to be displayed on the dashboard. Its usually accompanied by white smoke from the exhaust as if the DPF is doing a regeneration. When this happens the engine stutters and the revs reduce massively for about a second or two.

It happens more regularly if the van is driven gently, not as much if driven hard.

Typically happens about once every couple of days. The engine management light then illuminates which stays on usually for another 4/5 engine starts and then the whole process starts again!

ECU initially blamed the Mass air flow sensor which has been charged but to no avail.
