Hi guys

I have recently purchased a 929 fireblade and after hopefully repairing an oil leak on the left hand side casing - I’m looking to see what oil is best to refill?

I’d welcome any suggestions...

Regards,
Dave

Shell Ultra 4T in 10w40 for me.

Really good oil and not expensive if you shop around.

I’ve been using a company called westway lubricants for a while now - usually via eBay.

I get the engine and fork oil, plus brake fluid from them.

You can bulk buy their oil too, I have a 25 litre drum sitting at the moment as I’m working through all my services...

10w40 weight oil, either semi or fully synthetic. There is some old wives tale that fully synthetic causes clutches to slip - it's not true, providing you use a motorcycle specific (JASO-MA standard) oil. Fully synthetic is better at lubricating, better at removing heat from hot engine components and more stable over time.

If your clutch starts to go on motorcycle-specific fully synthetic, your clutch was already going anyway.

I like Castrol for no other reason than it's all I've ever used and I've never had any oil-related issues.

Sadly that's the problem with oil - sensible, rational advice is often ignored. :\

Good advice gents, maybe one of the skilled engineers on here could help me and expand a little more on the oil issue. My Blade is one of those that uses substantial amounts of oil, can be as much as half a litre per 1000 miles. When at home there is no problem because I can keep topping up from.my stocks. However when touring it is often difficult to find JASO specific oil and I have to resort to car stuff. Can someone indicate how much I can get away with, if any ( bearing in mind i have actually done it a couple of times ) And I presume an oil change when I get back.
