I've had my present W.reg Cerb 4.5 for a few months now, it's always had a bit of a flat spot around and under 2000rpm. I had a 12k service done just over a month ago and the Throttle pots were set up then, but the flat spot remained, so I put this down to the "they all have that" syndrome. But just recently the flat spot has developed into something a bit more severe.

As I put my foot on the accerelator, at low revs, the car starts to cut out, sometimes it does for a split second then, (pause for effect) BANG!! the engine fires back into life, my prop, diff, and bushes get a hammering and i get a kick in the back.
This happened Monday on a roundabout, the back end flew out, and I had to apply massive oposite lock. While it may have looked cool I was sh!tting bricks.
The problem has started to travel up the rev range as well now.

My theory, which is also what TVR Craft suggested, is that my throttle pots have gone out of sync. But they were only checked a just over a month ago and i've not done many miles since.

Any body got any suggestions?
I don't have a laptop or the the software to check for faults. If anyone who does and fancy's a trip to Romford (I would travel out but not sure if i'll make it far) then there could be a drink in it for them.

I'm ahead of you Gazzab.

Funnily enough it has got an APM R/chip, fitted by Andy a few years ago. I emailed him a couple of weaks ago to find out about the chip, (I didn't go into detail because the problem wasn't too drastic then), apparently the chip was for smoother running. I tried phoning Andy yesterday, but he hasn't called back yet.

I also called Austec but Paul, who apparently is the man to speak to, was off sick. But I did find out that they are booked up for the next couple of weeks.

I would suggest first thing to do would be to replace you ecu with a normal one and see if the problem goes away.

Then laptop software. I live next door to brands hatch and have the software/laptop that we could try if you can make it down here.

P.S. I have a W reg Cerb 4.5 so we could do a bit of mix and match to diagnose the problem if needed.

Sorry can't come to romford, too many bad memories of harold hill swimming pool and the romford swimming club as a child swimming star.

Mind you the essex bunch of Ph'ers are about the friendliest on the planet so I guess you'll have someone over there offer soon if not.

If I was a betting man I'd say leads or coil!
Only cause I had a similar experience.

Do the leads or coil have a way of showing themselves on the software?

I daren't ask about your school boy swimming memories If it makes you feel any better Harold Hill swimming pool was knocked down and replaced with a brand new leisure centre.

It could be a lead, I did have a lead replaced when it was serviced, so it's quite posible that another has given up on life.

Does anyone know what car the coil comes from or is it a TVR special?

MARK, Dont know if its late notice but I may be heading down to Austec tonight to pick my cerb up if its ready. If you wanted to drop yours off there, I could give you a lift back as Im just in woodford.

Austec are the boys to speak to, Paul is a perfectionist, but they always have waiting lists. 2 weeks isnt that bad for them.

Nope - just change them every 6k miles as insurance - mine always seem to die about then.

How much are the coils? and do you go to TVR or do you get them from Citreon?

Gatwick road, Crawley. About 3mins. from junction 10-M23.
What makes you think it could be water? I noticed the water in my expansion tank was a bit low, but then i do have a small leak.
Good luck, let me know how you get on.

Dan, if you're coming from Essex then Austec are about 2/3 the distance to APM. Austec are about 5 mins from Gatwick Airport, which should give you an idea on distance/time.
