Can anyone help, I have a bmw 58 plate 118d 3 door and my drivers side window motor has gone (window won’t go up or down) I can’t find the part anywhere, does it have to be exactly the same as the part I have in there? Thanks in advance!

Should be able to find your part number here....

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select

Then google the part number, to find a seller, or give it to your local dealer.

Have you tried the scrappys ?

You’ve got those ‘find my part’ sites, where they email a selection of yards.

If you click through the links on this page (or equivalent for your actual vehicle) it will tell you all the models the part you need was fitted to and then you can search with more confidence. I would be amazed that you cant find one to fit.

I would try and get hold of Cotswold BMW parts desk, I have found that for parts like this that are still in stock BMW OEM can be very competitive when you factor in the assurance thats its the right on for your vehicle.

Are you sure the drive motor has failed? I'd be tempted to strip and clean all the electrical conections and microswitches myself first. Certainly it would be worth looking on www.babybmw.net to see whether there are any common faults.

Indeed. Another common point of failure used to be the plastic sliders that run in the mechanism. These would go brittle, crack, and then jam or fall out. Cheap and easy to buy, a bit fiddly to fit but easy enough for an amateur mechanic.

Cotswold are not selling online parts at the moment. Re the op’s car the motor is a commonly failing part. It has been modified by BMW to try and improve it.
