Jaguar X Type 2.1L V6 Sport
Discussion
Nice motor. Looks decent in black with the bigger wheels. I've got an X-Type myself, with all the bits that go wrong (4 wheel drive, slush box, etc.)
Except nothing's gone wrong, which is nice. The automatic gearbox is very smooth, but incredibly lazy. If it were a person, it'd be a Spanish gigolo. The engine doesn't produce much in the way of blistering performance, but I didn't buy it with the expectation of incredible speed.
I paid £950 for mine, about 3 years ago. In that time, it's only needed consumables, and a new radiator (a previous owner had done a shocking liquid metal repair on it).
It's worth less than nothing now, but I'm reluctant to get shot of it, as the car just keeps going, and it owes me nothing. Anyway, here she is.

I keep looking at the Sovereign Estates as a replacement for the Mondeo - although I also look at everything else and confuse myself as what I want.
The 2.1 isn't bad, i had one as a hire car when we got married way back in 2002, light blue with cream interior, i arrived in that, the wife arrived in a Jaguar SS100 Saloon.

Nice. I had 2, a 2.5 auto estate and a 3.0 manual saloon sport premium, it was the only one for sale in that spec (dash screen) in the country, I drove 2 hours to see it and paid £150 to have it delivered. Within 2 weeks some t
t on his phone entered a roundabout as I was going round it and wrote it off! The only positive thing was insurance gave me £600 more than I paid for it. Both cars had severe and expensive to fix oil leaks.

Sorry to hear about the write off. I need to give mine a better check for leaks, there is nothing obvious. Do you know what the source of the leaks was?
I did consider getting a 2.5 or 3.0 manual but decided to try and be a little sensible, not sure if I'm going to regret that decision. Did the 3.0 manual feel properly quick?
Thanks, don't mind my negative comment it still annoys me that I only had 2 weeks with it! Yes, it felt quick, much more so than the 2.5 auto estate, which is too be expected as it weighed less and had an extra 36bhp. At 230bhp it felt really nice to drive and quicker than my current e46 BMW 330d estate.I did consider getting a 2.5 or 3.0 manual but decided to try and be a little sensible, not sure if I'm going to regret that decision. I believe it was the sump gasket, but I never actually got either done, ovbvious reason on the 3.0 but the 2.5 although the sump was wet it didn't use too much oil. The problem was that one of the bolts to release the sump pan needs the transfer case removed, but shouldn't be a problem actually as yours is FWD anyway?
Enjoy, they're good cars for the money!

Nice car; I do like these
They're a bit small, but odd as it sounds, there's more room inside these than the S Type
When my MG ZT-T 190 went sometime in 2011, I looked at a few X Type 3.0 V6s and nearly bought one, but went away and thought it about it too long and it'd sold, typical. Went to view a few S Types and couldn't fit in them, the cabin is so narrow, small seats, big centre column etc. No good for someone my height and width etc
However, bags of room in the X Type!
Now an X Type 3.0 estate would be a lovely car!

Yes whilst this is the baby Jag it is a usable space inside, certainly for my needs as it's generally only me who travels in it. I did think about the estate given the extra practicality and it's decent looking, but didn't really need it and prefer the look of the saloon.
The reverse tardis phenomenon does seem to be a classic Jag trait, I've had XJ's that whilst very long were all bonnet and boot, relatively small inside.
Yup; I was considering S Type Rs and XJR's because I've never owned a Jag and they were cheaper than an MG ZT V8 etc... Like you said, long cars, but small inside...The reverse tardis phenomenon does seem to be a classic Jag trait, I've had XJ's that whilst very long were all bonnet and boot, relatively small inside.
The S Type R I went to view local to me, the owner was in stitches as I couldn't fit my legs under the steering wheel; seat right down and back too!

At 6ft4 and 21 stone of a competitive powerlifter, I get I'm not average sized, but bloody hell; a car that big should have been perfect for me...!

That's why I ended up travelling to Glasgow to buy a 2000 BMW E38 728i and I've been in BMWs since!
