2 cars or 1

Need help deciding if I should get 2 cars or just one.

Current car is a V50 estate. Having dpf issues so want to get rid. I do 15k-20k a year. 60 mile round trip commute 5 days a week.

Thinking of getting a cheap car for for commuting then get something decent for weekends. Or just get one car that car do both. I've got kids so it need to fit their seats in.

Budget is 10k-15k.

Get another dull car for the commute, then leave the kids at home at the weekend and get a fun 2 seater.

Have you got the disposable income to run two cars? I have two because I can afford to run my own car in addition to my company expensed vehicle. Outlay is probably £100/mnth for tax/insurance/service + fuel so it is not expensive.

If the TVR became a money pit I would get shut of it but whilst I can afford it & derive enjoyment from it I will run two cars.

Don't want get something nice then have trouble selling it putting 40k on it. Was thinking of just getting a VRS. Or a Yaris for commuting.

I personally prefer the 2 car rather than the 1 car way of doing it. In fairness though when I had the TVR having another car was essential...because in no way could I trust the TVR to start everytime I went to it!

I commute in a Yaris. Great little car. Had a Rav4 before which lasted me 10 years, no issues. Still going strong, sold it to my best mate because don't need such a big daily anymore.

The Yaris costs absolute pennies to run and works all day every day. Mine's the 1.3 petrol. Bit sluggish low down but better once up and running. Nice gearchange, good brakes and handles ok. Bluetooth and a/c work well. Headlights not so good and it doesn't have cruise control.

If you want a car that just works a Toyota really is a good starting point.

Something like the Mondeo will be a good workhorse as would the 300C as they'll both eat up the miles whilst keeping the maintenance numbers low.

For me the CLK/Monaro are the picks from the above as long as 4 seats is okay.

3 kids so really need a 5 seater. Was just thinking about getting another just a cheapish estate and wait 6-12 months.
