Navy submarine party

What the actual fook. Do people not realise they were living in a submarine prior to returning for repairs. We’re kept in isolation during repairs and will go back together as a crew once the repairs are complete.
I would imagine it’s extremely difficult to socially isolate by 2m from each other in a f
king submarine.
Complete none news. As far as I am concerned. If they spend months under the he water protecting us then they can darn well have a few beers whilst there on shore ‘IN ISOLATION’.

I wouldn't have a problem with them having a little party if done in a suitably safe manner. They've been cooped up; some sunshine & destress would be good for them.
I think the question is whether it's a good look when the country is in lockdown. Those who can't/won't think about it will get jealous that others party whilst they're having to undergo 'quarantine'. It's not about fact so much as perception.

Agree, but think the issue is that the CO asked for approval, got none and cracked on regardless. Was only going to end one way...
I would have thought that as the captain of a Navy nuclear submarine (not an easy job to get), it would be within his remit to decide if his crew can have a few beers anyway. If he asked but they couldn’t be arsed to respond then taking it under his own command decision shouldn’t be leading to this. I can’t imagine it’s cheap to train a nuclear submarine captain. What a waste.
I agree OP.
My brother in law is an electrical engineer on subs, so I’ve got a pretty good idea of what it’s like for them.
Another family member flies for the RAF...if people knew about sone of the stuff they get up to whilst flying it would blow the minds of the terminally outraged.
Whilst I agree that it may not be the best ‘look’ at the moment, when did everybody lose the ability to engage their brains before jumping up and down (I.e. these guys can’t distance because of their working environment)?

It's not the party that is being scrutinised here and it's important to this story to acknowledge that.
It's the accusation of public and wilful ignoring of orders from a superior in front of the crew that is being investigated.

In one clip, Commander Lewis appeared to be talking on the phone while members of his crew stood around him looking on in silence, erupting into cheers once he ended the call. A source said that the captain had been speaking to his boss, a commodore, in the clip.
A dim view is said to have been taken of the clip, which purportedly shows a senior officer undermining the authority of a superior in front of a number of personnel. It is also claimed that, in an attempt to evade the strict letter of the alleged instructions not to hold a social event on the dockyard, the makeshift DJ booth was set up on top of casing.

Which is exactly what I said in post 3 of the thread. It's the accusation of public and wilful ignoring of orders from a superior in front of the crew that is being investigated.

The Royal Navy are utterly fantastic at improvisation when it comes to entertainment and parties.
BZ to all involved.
It's certainly no coronavirus risk, the poor buggers are being cooped up below anyway, in this sort of space:

As far as I'm aware the navy is working near enough normally, maybe not shoreside but definitely on the ships
And as for the "Alcohol" well I know a few ex matelots, there's plenty of that, BBQ or not!
As always with the navy it will be going against orders that's the issue, not the act itself.
