So given that cars seem to be getting more and more "look at me" with even the slowest models in the range being given sporty styling, massive wheels etc is there such a thing as a recent(ish) factory Q car / sleeper?

Not really on about stuff that's mega fast, crazy engine swaps and so on but more along the lines of something that from the factory looks pretty much like any other model in the range but quicker than most people at first glance would expect it be. There's a three year old similar thread but curious if there are many recent models out there.

Going to start of by nominating our 2019 Seat Leon estate, when we first got it people assumed it was a 1.4 petrol or equivalent diesel and rather surprised to find out its a 2.0TSI with 190hp - pics reposted from the "Pics of Your Fast Estate"

One of the Yeti was quite nippy I seem to recall, lthough it looked absolutely pipe and slippers.

They did a 1.8T 4x4 IIRC. they could be mapped to low 200's i think and they are supposed to handle brilliantly.

Some people call my S6 a sleeper. On the face of it it looks like any other S-Line A6. But anyone with an interest it gives them plenty of clues - badges, exhaust, slightly flared front arches, grill, wheel design and chrome mirror covers. I er towards the non-sleeper category but i guess the majority of the public dont pick up on those things (badges aside). Even people who realise its an S6 doent usually realise it has a V10 and instead expect a 3.0 V6 or similar laugh

I think it tends to be the exhausts that give things away on the hotter varients of cars that otherwise look similar - "M-Lites" have the exit each side, S cars have the 4 etc

I hate to be “that guy”, but suggesting a modern estate car with 190hp is a ‘Q Car’ or some kind of sleeper is a stretch, surely?

See where your coming from, guess it depends on your definition of Q car or sleeper.

Suppose I'd define a Q car as something that looks the same as the rest of the range but has performance greater than most people would expect from either looks alone or the make / model. So true 190hp isn't hugely fast but Cupra aside which looks like a performance car the 2.0TSI is the most powerful in the range whilst looking exactly the same as the others, including the 1.4TSI and 1.6TDI which probably make up the majority of sales and hence friends and family assumed it was one or the other and be a fair bit slower than it is.

Of course i could have a very unique take on what a Q car is and be talking a load of rubbish but thats my 2 cents anyway lol

Everyone has a different view on a sleeper but so far the one jumping out on this thread is the superb, imagine the reaction of a slightly rough skoda estate giving it the beans off the lights with 280 bhp on tap.
Makes we wanna buy one, but one with a really rough body, and then never wash it

May be consider it (for this threads purposes) 2 to 3 times the power of the lowest engine you can buy to lug whatever car around (and it doesn't look much different).....something that might get a "that's quick for a........" type comment?

E220d? No sir, that would be an E63 "Business packet" only offered in mainland Europe.

Was going to suggest the 200hp Astra as another one for the "faster than expected based on the rest of the range" list but won't as the above is a fair comment - will now go and sit in the corner having been suitably corrected and shown the error of my ways....

I seem to recall one of the Mondeo trim levels (Titanium X?) was a 200+bhp 2.5 V6, despite looking pretty much identical to the 1.6.

I think you might be thinking of the old shape 3-litre V6 with 200bhp? The ST220 was the hot one in that shape?

Recently bought a 04 Saab 95 aero that’s mapped to 280ish. Not sure if it qualifies but the usual knocks that are there with age and some rust on the rear arches make it look like a shed, or I should say, make it a shed. Moves once in the mid range.

The 2.5T was in the Mk4 Mondeo. V6 was the Mk3.

200bhp is more than what most cars on the road have, if it's in a car that looks like it would have a 100bhp 1.4 it's a fair shout imo.

My nominations would be the 340i/540i, the only thing that differentiates them from a 2.0d is an extra tailpipe.

I have a de-badged manual LCI 530i (272bhp and a 6 second 0-60 time) which looks just like a 520d, even has a cloth interior! Looks like this:

Only 101 made in RHD so pretty rare. Of course would be better if it was a 550i but best of luck finding one of these!

Was thinking the same about 200hp being more than quite a few cars so started the thread thinking our 190hp Seat Leon would have counted as it looks much the same as the rest of the range which covers a 115hp petrol to 150hp diesel but from some of the other posts not so sure - guess Q car is one of those that is open to interpretation.
