My BBQ (Brinkman I think) needs replacing.
It must be 20 years old and on its last legs but I've yet to find anything better.
Very easy to control the heat, I've cooked duck on it before, that is not easy on Webbers etc.
I've repainted it umpteen times but the boss wants a new one.
Or shall I order another tin of hi temp matt black?

Get yourself a large Kamodo Joe, I promise you, you cannot go wrong and there isn’t anything you can’t cook on it.

Temp regulation is very simple.

It depends on budget, ceramic if you are feeling flush otherwise I don't think you can go far wrong with a Weber Kettle. Get one with top and bottom controls and it won't take long to learn how to control the temperature.

That's really impressive that it lasted that long BTW

I'd paint it up, looks fine.

If not a ceramic is ace, I've got a BGE and cook everything from bread to smoking my own salmon it's so versatile.

See if you can get yourself an Oklahoma Joe.
Asda were selling them a few years back for under £300

Hi TF,

I would be interested in your BBQ for a project. Think you're in Epping which isn't too far from me?

After lockdown obviously but understand if you want shot of it right away!

Thanks!

That's a Brinkman Smoke n Pit. Had the very same one myself, and yes c20 years old. When I finally got shot of mine I bought a traditional Weber and THAT is the BBQ you should get OP. It's a fantastic piece of kit. We've roasted lamb joints, beer can chicken, roast beef as well as the usual stuff. Really versatile and easy to use

Aren’t Aldi punting their equivalents at the moment? Might be worth a look for £349?

Really hope so, in a fit of boredom last night I spunked £550 on a Weber Performer charcoal barbecue and a load of accessories

I decided against spending a small fortune whilst in lockdown on something I couldn’t
See until it arrived mail order.
So as I’m bored I thought I’d give it one last season.
But thanks for the ideas above, when the shops open up again I’ll go looking.

I can't see that you'll regret that - I've had my 47cm (so the smaller size) Weber kettle for 13+ years now and it's excellent.

@ OP it's worth taking a look at the Weber Smokey Mountain range or ProQ's Frontier/Excel if that's the kind of cooking you want to do. A Weber Kettle (57cm) is the most versatile though, I'd say.

I’ve got a 57cm Kettle, and a Weber smokey mountain, both of them just sit in the garden under their covers since getting my KJ, unless I’m smoking and bbq’ing on the same day.

The Weber stuff is good, but the KJ is in another league for holding temps etc, as well as being super efficient on fuel, and temp control is much easier too.

I'd forgotten about these...

Sent it to my cousin who's in the market for a new bbq, this is now under very very serious consideration!

So this might not float your boat as you could accuse it of being a bit of a cheat device, but i just purchased the Masterbuilt Gravity 560, it holds enough charcoal for a 10 hour smoke (and you can easily add more if you need while cooking) it smokes at 225 or sears upto 700 (F, im in the US) , it gets to 225 in just 7 mins and 700 in 13mins ,so almost like gas in speed, its computer controlled with fans, with wifi app connected , so form my app yesterday i could adjust the cooking temp if i wished (it holds to the set temp within 2 degrees) and monitor the temp of the brisket i cooked so know when to collect it

Really is a game changer for me for its simplicity, but i also get some people like the fussing over the traditional offset smoking devices

https://www.masterbuilt.com/collections/smokers/pr...

As you can see the wheels have great brakes toosmile
