718 GT4 / Spyder - Can you take them on quiet UK trackdays?
Discussion
In standard form does anyone know how much quieter the 718 GT4 / Spyder is than the 981 GT4? In particular, is it quiet enough to pass the noise tests at some of the quieter UK circuits?
I know from personal experience that the standard 981 GT4 was marginal at Bedford i.e. just passed the 101db static, but then tripped the 87.5db drive-by even if you were lifting / being careful. By comparison my M2 Competition was absolutely fine there.
Is a positive of all this WLTP stuff that you could actually take a 718 GT4 or Spyder to Bedford or similar and drive it around all day without worrying? (Obviously after we're all released from lock-down...).
Thanks for any info on this.

Guess we aren’t sure yet, as the TD season got postponed before it kicked off.I know from personal experience that the standard 981 GT4 was marginal at Bedford i.e. just passed the 101db static, but then tripped the 87.5db drive-by even if you were lifting / being careful. That said, I only saw one 718 GT car on track...guess the rest were busy being prepped for quick flip!
I was lucky enough to go out in it...significantly quieter than 981. Don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t be able to get on regular 92-95db days. Which does open up a lot more day to an owner...so that’s a good thing
The best description I’ve seen for the new 718 4.0 sound is that it sounds kind of like an NA GT2 RS. I thought that when I first heard it, and I when I saw this statement the other day it reminded me of that first thought...and it’s exactly right.

There is a static rev limiter at 5k.
At Castle Combe my static was 95db, at Goodwood static was 92db one side and 96db the other (that’s Goodwood for you). I did not trip the drive by limits but was not using full revs.
You can get on 98db static days but Thruxton’s 90db is going to be a stretch.
