Vintage Heuer (1973) 1589B - info needed
Discussion
Morning all,
I'm in talks on a 1973 Heuer Chronograph 1589B. I know that later models were manufactured in France (plenty on the web about these) however the seller has guaranteed that this earlier model was manufactured in Switzerland.
I've trawled the internet for some info around these earlier watches but can't find any mention of Switzerland being the base of manufacture.
It's a lovely watch so any info people can provide would be much appreciated!
TIA

Yes, the one in the picture has 'Made In France' on at the bottom of the dial. The one i'm acting on says 'EBAUCHE SUISSE' ....can't seem to find much info about the latter.Might be worth posting on https://forums.calibre11.com someone will know all about it on there.
Couple of things, its not form 1973 pretty certain of that, these are MUCH later more likely 1983 than 1973.
As far as i know these were all french made, this one certainly is (although the photos are not great) it says Ébauche Swiss on the dial, meaning the movement is Swiss, if it was Swiss made it would say so.
These were the low cost Heuer chronograph, (I think) intended to sit below the Swiss made watches, hence being made in France as differentiator. You can find the exact same watches with different manufacturers name on hence there are LOADS of fakes and franks kicking about. Take a random old 70s french chronograph and re-finish the dial with Heuer and its a load easier to sell.
Do not over pay for it, they are not that rare and generally not that desirable (compared to the "proper Heuers") I am pretty sure they had a couple for sale at WoK this year and they went for £1200ish plus fees.
Just for clarity, these are cool vintage watches and nothing wrong with them at all, but I would not want to pay anything like the price of an Autavia or similar.
