I started playing this evening. It runs somewhere between ultra and high settings on my gaming laptop and the frame rate is ultra silky.
It definitely plays like a streamlined XCOM. I've just done the intro mission and it has all the XCOM standards like action points, half and full cover, overwatch etc. Hopefully it does away with the base management side of things, which I always find to be the least enthralling thing about XCOM and games of a similar ilk.
I'm a huge Gears fan, I love the story, the setting, the Locust, etc and this definitely ticks the boxes. In the first 30 minutes you get gruff shouty dialogue, 7 foot tall lizard men getting chainsawed apart and charged with bayonets. It's unsubtle but awesome.
